Vehicle Detail

1998 Dodge Durango - Mechanics Special - 140,000 miles ... The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. Over the last few years I have maintained/repaired this vehicle, intending to keep it for a while, figuring it was cheaper to repair it than buy another. Unfortunately, it has developed a rod knock and needs a new/rebuilt engine. I don't have the time to deal with it, so I'm offering it here before I call a salvage yard. It has a lot of major pieces repaired over the last few years ... NOTE - I've only been driving it 4-5000 miles per year on this Durango (30,000 miles in the last 7 years), so even though some of these repairs were done a few years ago, the've seen relatively little use ... The Good ... * Interior is in real good shape with no tears in the leather. Rear seat probably hasn't been used 50 times in the last 12 years. No cracks in dash. carpet is good. Always used protectors * Rear End rebuilt - The conical bearing started to make a "Howling" noise, so I had the entire rear axel assembly rebuild $1200+ * Airconditioning compressor - The Pully bearing went and the shaft was scored. Shop said I could probably get away with replacing the pully, but I had them replace the whole thing. $800+ * Brakes - One brake line went, so I had them replace them all. At the same time the front brakes got new rotors & pads, and new pads on the back. (Last summer) * Tires - Less than 10,000 Miles on them * New wires, Plugs, Rotor, Cap, etc .... just had it tuned up ... 3 weeks ago. * Body is straight *(See Bumper under Bad) * Trailer hitch & 7 Pin Connector * Battery is 2 years old * Ball Joints & Tie Rod Ends done at about 110,000 miles * Radiator is new - Could have had the old one repaired, but put a new one in instead The Bad - * Front Bumper - Had a fender bender about 8 years ago. The crash bar took the brunt of the hit, but they repaired the bumber (Instead of replacing it). It rusted out right were the repair was made ... See Pics. Other than that, there isn't much rust to speak of. * ABS System - Have an intermittent problem with the controller. Pulled the fuse figuring I'd get to it this summer. Still haven't had it diagnosed. Been driving without the ABS for 6-7 months now. No problems. The Ugly ... Engine (5.2L/318CI) - Had a "Rattle" for a little while now. Developed into a full blown rod knock last week. Thought about repairing it, but I really need a bigger trailer and something to tow it with, so I'm going to move on to something bigger. This would still make a decent driver for someone who wanted to fix it. NADA shows a "Rough Trade" value on this vehicle as being somewhere in the ballpark of $1600. Make me an offer ... It's shame for all those new parts to go to waste in a salvage yard.. OH ... and I probably wouldn't drive it too far, in it's current condition. Taking a big chance there. Vehicle is for sale locally and reserve the right to end the auction if it sells before listing ends. Local Pick-Up only
