1979 Volkswagen VW Type 1 cabriolet, convertible beetle This is a nice 1979 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. Somewhat rare as this was the last year of Wolfsburg, Germany's production of the famous "Small Wonder." This car is an excellent driver and beach cruiser, and is equipped with the Bosch Jetronic fuel injection. The engine was completely rebuilt in 1986 and this one drives like a dream, nice and straight down the road and no pulling when braking. Four speed manual transmission works fine, as do all of the running lamps and parking brake, speedometer and fuel gauge. The overall condition and appearance is very good, and though I would consider this is a driver quality car at the moment it would be an easy restoration, with all parts easily available to get it 100%. There are a few existing tears in the front seats and the white convertible top is sun-dried and will need replacement. There are no major rust issues with the car though there is a minor area of corrosion at the top of the body where the folding top boot attaches, this is a non-structural area which should be an easy fix. The floor pans were replaced with quality stampings some time ago and the repair job appears to be excellent. The car is also equipped with a late model Pioneer CD stereo with XM satellite receiver.
