Vehicle Detail

Porsche 550 Spyder This hand built 2/3rd scale Porsche 550 Spyder was the creation of the late Michael Bogardus, a well know magazine illustrator and avid European motorcycle/car collector. Mr. Bogardus is best known for many of his Porsche racing illustrations. Please know, this Porsche is NOT a kit car but a one-off car and is the only one known in existence as the molds were destroyed after completion, per his wife. Full page featured in Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car Magazine, August 2007, the car is powered by a rear mounted engine, functional exhaust, coil suspension, headlights, taillights, correct looking red bucket seats/interior, leather straps for rear engine compartment, driver side mirror, volt meter, oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, correct Spyder paint scheme, etc. Unfortunately, Mr. Bogardus passed away when the car was nearly completed and appears very little is required for the car to be drivable. Upon his death, this and one other of his 2/3 car creations, a Lotus Super 7, were put into storage until this spring. The body is in excellent condition and paint is nearly flawless. Measurements of the exterior is 96” long by 45” wide with a passenger compartment measuring 33” front to rear. Location is near Asheville, North Carolina and possible delivery is available. On May-06-10 at 13:46:05 PDT, seller added the following information:Although the seller does not know of any defects in the construction of this car, the seller assumes no liability for the future driver of this car due to mechanical failure or driver error. On May-10-10 at 13:37:07 PDT, seller added the following information:Additional comments on car: The rear 8" disk brakes & calipers are in place along with the master cylinder and is probably out of a BMW motorcycle, similar to the builder's other car, the Lotus Super 7 also listed on Ebay. Brakes appear to be ready to go but I have not tested. Engine (11 hp Briggs), drive train (belt & chain drive) and custom made stainless exhaust are also in place and appear to be ready to go. What I've found missing is the fuel tank. There is a bracket next to the engine that I assume Mr. B had planned on using to mount the fuel cell. Also, the running lights are in place but not wired up. There is no title as this is not a street legal car. Mr. B's Lotus ran at 45 mph to give the future buyer an idea of this car's potential. Again, as this car has never been driven, it's speed is only assumed.
