Vehicle Detail
I've owned this MGTA for a couple of years having bough it from Northshore Imports in Chicago who completey restored it. The beauty of the car is that it was restored by mostly refurbishing the existing parts - instead of just buying everything new. This really increases the authenticity and feeling of connection to the car's past. Key points: Complete frame off restoration Orignal Engine and Transmission - both which were rebuilt New Wiring Harness New Suspension New Brakes New Chrome New Paint The previous owner had it for over 30 years and when the car was restored, they kept the same beautiful silvery blue colour though not original. I also commissioned the side curtains to be redone which came out very well. Total cost into the car is over $45,000. For a little history on the MG TA - The MG TA was introduced in 1936 making this the first year of production. It was an evolution of the previous car and was 3 inches (76 mm) wider in its track at 45 inches and 7 inches (180 mm) longer in its wheelbase at 94 inches. It uses an MPJG overhead valve unit from the Wolseley 10 with twin SUI carburettors, modified camshaft and manifolding. The engine displaced just 1292 cc, with a stroke of 102 mm and a bore of 63.5 mm and power output was 50 hp (40.3 kW) at 4500 rpm. The four speed has synchromesh on the two top ratios. The car has a steel body aqnd an ash frame. It was capable of reaching nearly 80 mph (130 km/h) in standard tune with a 0-60 mph time of 23.1 seconds. It comes stock with hydraulic brakes. Just over 3000 were made and in 1936 it cost £222 on the home market. As the resotration was a number of years ago, I want to point out a few things. The RPM gauge is not accurate and could do with some cleaning. The paint shows a little sign of age though not unless you really get close and look for it. This being said, she is a joy to drive, starts on the first pull even when cold and gets attention everywhere she goes. --- Reviewing the pictures, the MG looks very blue. It isn't! It is silver though with a light blue tint. The pictures just seem to exagerat the blue.
