Vehicle Detail
I am re-listing this car with a new price because the car is having an issue with the engine. I lowered the price and do not have a reserve because I have no idea how to fix it and I don’t know what is wrong. I have tried and have given up. Let my lack of knowledge be a gain for you!! The engine ran strong last week (I drove it around the neighborhood with no issues), and then the other afternoon I tried to start it up and it won't start. The engine turns perfectly from the starter (it is not frozen), there is oil pressure building up when the key is turned and the starter is turning the engine. I think gas is getting into the carb, but the car just won't run. I know there is 12v getting to the coil (not 100% sure how to test any further), and it appears spark is getting to the plugs. My first thought was I pumped the gas pedal too much and "flooded" the engine (that is how it is behaving), but after letting it sit all night it still won’t start. I openly admit I don’t know much about engines, but have tried everything I know (which again isn’t much). The fluids all seem ok (no water in the oil etc), no broken hoses, etc. I did play with the carb prior to this and maybe I messed something up with the mixture etc or maybe I messed up something with the choke. I also did go through all the wires (with a meter) and maybe I moved/broke a wire. This could be something as simple as a bad fuel pump, coil, distributor, or it could be something internal to the engine and be serious (please bid accordingly). I have decided to list it on e-bay at this price (below value) because I don’t know what is wrong and don’t have the skill or resources and patience right now to fix it. If you know engines here is a great opportunity to get a really rare D-Code car at a GREAT price. If it does not sell I’ll put it into storage for a while. This is still the original engine and has never been re-built. __________________________________________ This car has just had the following done to it Brakes have been replaced (pad, wheel cylinders etc).. IT STOPS GREAT !!! Transmission has just been inspected and flushed. IT SHIFTS SMOOTH!!!! The exhaust (mufflers, pipes, etc) have been replaced .. IT SOUNDED GREAT!!! _________________________________________________________________ This is a RARE and highly prized D code convertible. This is an original California car (so you know it is solid) It has a CLEAR TITLE , the interior is all intact with no tears or rips in the seats etc it needs a little cleaning and some minor work to make it perfect. The exterior is in GREAT shape. And with some MINOR body work and a new paint job would be perfect. I included pictures of any issues and there is only some small bubbling in the paint but a magnet sticks (and looking behind the panels) around the area I think the rust behind the paint is minimal. The frame, underside, etc is all SOLID. All of the metal on this car appear to be original and VERY solid!!!!! Warranty Number: 5F08D143806 Year: 5 1965 (1964 1/2) Plant: F Dearborn, MI Body Series: 08 Convertible Engine: D 289 4v V8 Unit: 143806 143806 Miscellaneous Vehicle Data Body: 76A Convertible, Standard Interior Color: F Guardsman Blue Trim: 82 Blue Crinkle Vinyl, Standard Interior Date: 21E May 21, 1964 D.S.O: 72 San Jose Axle: 1 3.00:1, Conventional Trans: 5 4-Speed Manual Note: The Original color was Blue, but it is currently painted White This car has some great features: Original Power Top Original COMPLETE 289 4brl "D" code engine AM/FM Cassette Radio (USA Custom Mustang Radio) with a Kenwood CD changer in the trunk (note : The CD player works great, but the tuner in the radio does not seem to be working) Original 4-Speed Manual Transmission Front Fog Lights on the valance Dual exhaust (NEW) I have tried to include take pictures of the body where there it will need some attention, you can see there are not many and they are minor. In my opinion to get this car on the road it needs: New convertible top (power top works perfect and all the rails/ribs are in place and move perfectly, it just needs new material) Horn assembly in the steering wheel needs to be re-built (it appears to be missing the springs etc, but this is a cheap and simple fix with parts everywhere) The paint job has chips, scratches and some bubbles (as seen in the pictures), While it has an ok “daily driver” paint job, I would suggest getting it re-painted (besides the original color was dark blue and it is currently white) Some work on the engine This car is listed locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Feel free to call me with questions. ask for Eric (Home) 843-760-0741 ____ I can not confirm this but I have had two people tell that with this color , 4-speed, Convertible body , D-Code car is one of only 160 made (one person told me one of 159, and one said one of 160). They said they did some research and found that out. I don't have a way to confirm that and with this year car they don't have Marti Reports. Regardless this is a rare car just being a D code convertible. (Please do your own research and bid accordingly)
