Vehicle Detail

1975 Porsche 914 1.8 Clean, straight exterior. Minimal rust (for a 914) - the car is solid and has no rust on the driver's side rocker, the passenger side has rust around the jack point attachment but the structural part rocker itself is not rusty, and neither are the floors - all the floor panels are clean. The car has a hell hole but there is no damage/corrosion/rust on the suspension pick up points or the chassis members below the battery tray - the battery tray itself is gone (as in the top is pretty much completely rusted away). The area below it / around the wheel well on the engine side should be sandblasted and repainted. Picture of the suspension mount/control arm on the right rear is in the online set - it's covered in cosmoline and grime but no rust. The orange you see there is from the original paint, which was orange. The body panels are in great shape, there is some tiny bubbling on the top of the fenders (pictured online). The paint is a pretty good respray (red, with grey interior panels in the trunks) and the bumpers look almost new. The right rear corner needs to be sanded and painted (see pictures). The top, headliner, and glass is all in great shape. The interior is rough, the dash has numerous cracks, the cloth is faded (but no tears in the cloth or vinyl). All the gauges work except the gas gauge - the gauge itself is OK but it needs a new sender (there isn't one in the tank, just a cover/seal where the sender goes). The speedometer works but the odometer does not, the car reads 96,xxx miles but I have no idea how many it actually has. Headlights pop up and are working fine, as are the wipers. No radio in the car. The rubber seals for the top are pretty much shot. The motor has unknown mileage, and is NOT from the car originally - the case # on the engine is AWO-18753 which identifies it as a bus motor. The engine starts up and runs fine. The 5-speed side-shift transmission does not grind in any gear going up or down, the car is running and driving fine. The halfshaft boots are intact. I got it in 2009 after it had been sitting for who knows how long (last registration was in '98) and did the following: all new fuel lines, new fuel pump, removed and had the gas tank boiled and coated.new carburetors/manifolds (the car had gummed up 36mm solexes, I replaced them with brand new 42mm solexes).replaced all fluid (engine/trans/brake).brand new 205/60's (less than 200 miles on them).new tie rod ends (outer)new tune up stuff (points/cap/rotor/plugs/wires)adjusted the valvesI'm trying to be upfront about the car - as 914's go it is really pretty clean chassis-wise, and would make a great platform to build on without having to deal with tons of rust or chassis work. You could keep it as it is and just drive it, but it IS a carb'd 1.8, so it's not exactly fast by modern standards. Handling, steering, shifting, braking are all good, and the car cleans up very nicely. The car has a clean CA title, is smog exempt in CA and is registered through 04/2011.
