Vehicle Detail
1984 C-20 (3/4 ton) Suburban - 6.2 Diesel with added 6.5 Turbocharger system. - no intercooler Turbo 400 automatic transmission. 3.42 open rear differential HD braking system - big front calipers and 13" Rear brakes Power Steering/Brakes (hydroboost). Cruise Control (aftermarket). Light Gray Exterior - Blue Interior. Just a basic truck. - No Power accessories - No Air Conditioning. I'm selling because I just don't have the time to work on a project I need to drive. I bought a newer truck and have too many other projects to give the Suburban the time necessary to keep it reliable, make it look nice, etc. Good, inexpensive, trailer pulling Suburban. I drove it to Nashville TN (about a 600 mile round trip) at the start of February - it drove fine. It was my everyday driver until last month. Truck had just a little over 260k when I bought it. It had a new odometer installed by the previous owner, and all of the 85k miles showing on the odometer are miles I put on since the truck was re-assembled sometime around 1995. Miles listed are an educated guess. Mileage listed when I titled it in Georgia was an error. The Good: Engine rebuilt and turbo added a little over 45k miles ago (January 2007) Replaced front fender wells. (Jan 2007) Transmission replaced in Jan 2009 - has upgraded torque converter. 4 new (since last May) 235/85-16 tires. New heater core. (Jan 2010) New gear reduction starter. (Jan 2010) Upgraded newer style glow plug relay w/manual on switch New Steering Box & Alignment (October 2009) New Master Cylinder (Feb 2010) New Right Rear Wheel Cylinder (April 2010) Wired for use with electric trailer brakes Standard Hitch Reciever Cleanable K&N style cone filter New rear axle seals (last spring) Overall frame in good shape. New Polyurethane engine and transmission mounts in Jan 2007. New 3" Exhaust w/ flowmaster muffler in Jan 2007 - still looks pretty good. Boost gauge and EGT gauge on driver's windshield pillar (new in Jan 2007) Very Good power and torque for a 6.2 diesel Pete Jackson Gear Drive timing set - No chain to fail Main bearing cap girdle for improved lower end strength. New Dorman Harmonic balancer (in past 6 months) Starts well even cold. Extra parts - You get most of my inventory of spare parts. Both batteries are less than two years old. Sony AM/FM cassette - old school, but works well. Rebuilt alternator installed within last 2 years. Electric fuel lift pump about a year old - makes fuel filter changes easy - reduces chances of air-lock. The Bad: NO A/C - The truck never had it. Front Seat is getting old. Differential cover seeps (have not had to add gear oil except rarely) Just Needs TLC (time) which I don't have. Drivers side of front bumper slightly bent. Passenger window stiff Rear window electrics balky when weather is cold. Passenger side block heater bad. - have a new one to be installed. May need some new glow plugs May need a new fuel filter soon - if not that, then the electric lift pump might be going bad. Gear indicator on column missing - an inconvenience, but I have driven the truck for years like this. Window seals need replacing (wind noise) Was an Ohio truck until Spring 2007 Was a company truck for MPW Industrial Services until I got it in the mid 90's - started out white - went to blue then light gray. I bought it as a project truck then - it was partially disassembled. No rear speakers (wires are there) The Ugly: Light Gray paint applied by Maaco in February 2007 is peeling in numerous places - mostly on the roof. Quarter panels were replaced in the mid 90's - rust (through) around the passenger side rear wheel well and lower rear section Rocker panels were replaced in the mid 90's - starting to rust too. Rear wheel wells rusty - water gets in cargo area. Spare tire well is rusted and cracked. Very rear part of frame is rusty Rust overall is becoming a problem - but not "fatal" - yet Body Mounts worn out Rear Main Seal leaks - about a quart every 750-1000 miles. Some of the dash warning lights don't have the right lenses - previous owner lost them, and I could not find the correct diesel replacements - more of an annoyance than anything critical. Water in Fuel, Glow, brake, etc. all work fine. Some minor electrical problems - dome lights stopped working - not sure why, Oil, Voltage and Water temp guages sometimes act flaky. I was planning on replacing the instrument panel printed circuit, but did not get around to doing it. I have a good used replacement - if I can find it.
