***The engine is in a partially dis-assembled condition*** I first removed the intake, then the timing chain cover, then sent both heads out to get redone. I unbolted the engine mounts and raised the engine enough to drop the oil pan. That's when I saw the broken piston rod. I don't have the equipment or energy to continue with the overhaul so I decided to lower the engine and here we are. 2nd owner cargo van. Ran good and got decent gas mileage. Idled smooth and didn't smoke. Shifted up and down smoothly. Cold A/C. Tires have about 14,000 miles on them. Replaced 2-leaf leaf springs to 3-leaf. Replaced front ball joints, starter and A/C hoses. Daily user until Dec 2017. Sat for a month and when I started it up it made a metallic noise from right bank and lost oil pressure. Checked oil pressure sending unit. It was okay. Was told by Ford mechanic that issue was probably a spun bearing. Took top end off and sent both heads to shop for re-working. Raised engine and dropped oil pan. Found small aluminum pieces in pan and saw number 1 piston rod had snapped. Also noticed some water in oil so my guess is that I had a blown head gasket and it leaked into #1 cylinder and when I started it is when the rod snapped. I have the following new parts on hand that will go with the van;New Melling oil pumpNew timing chains, sprockets, tensioners and guidesNew main and rod bearings Complete gasket setOil pan gasketHead boltsExhaust manifold studs and nutsRe-worked heads (still in plastic bags from machine shop) I can't go any further with the repairs so my loss is your gain!
