True Kansas City-built "L" code (cowl tag) SS396. 1969 JA suffix 325-hp L35 4-speed hi-perf. passenger 396 block - non matching Muncie 4-speed Factory tach and gauge package 12-bolt open 3.31 rear end 750 holley double pumper 4150 original T3 high beam headlights still work Buckets and console no build sheet or POP Power steering, power disc brakes Reliable - drove to Auburn, IN and back with no issues Owned for 15 yearsOriginal color is Madeira Maroon Paint - great for a driver, but not perfect - not a trailer queen. Wet-sanded and polished with Liquid Ice. Basecoat/clearcoat polyurethane.Engine/trans - not dyno'd but probably around the stock L35 325-horse. Rebuilt and runs smooth and strong. Muncie shifts smooth, back-up lights even work. Hurst shifter. Converted to Pertronix electronic ignition.Interior - front seat covers, dash pad, carpet, rear door panels replaced. All else is stock and looks good. Headliner is original and has a couple of wrinkles but doesn't sag. The clock does not work, the radio/8-track is not hooked-up. The factory tach works but does not go to zero. The factory oil pressure gauge is not connected, but a new sending unit is there. The other gauges work, plus an aftermarket set of gauges are there.Body - the left quarter has been replaced with a skin. The right appears to be original or could be a full replacement that was done well. The trunk is the best trunk I have seen and may be original. Includes spare, factory jack and lug wrench. Body mount bushings had been replaced.Reliability - starts immediately and runs well. Typically will run 195-200 F on even hot days. Brakes work well with discs up front and a new booster. 9/27 - wheel alignment and new tires. The old Cooper Cobras were 15 years old.Frame - solid with no rust issues or accident repairs that I have noticed. Please feel free to ask questions. This was the factory anti-theft for '69-72 4-speeds and was the reason the key was moved from the dash to the column. You will have to put the tranny in reverse to start/remove the key.
