Vehicle Detail

VIN A83880G470690. This 1972 Scout II is a true barn find – it was last licensed in 1991 and sat ever since. The 1991 plates tell us that it resided in Crook County, far northeast corner of Wyoming. My friend, a Jeep collector, ran across this vehicle and bought it, bringing it back to Riverton Wyoming, where I saw it and picked it up from him. I’ve worked on it for about a year now and here is where we are at: 1. Odometer shows 98,xxx and while we can’t prove anything, I believe it is actual. Odometer is working; speedo works but reads slow 2. The 304 engine starts right up and runs fantastic, here is what I’ve done to it: a. New Radiator b. New Battery c. Thermostat and belts d. New carb w/electric choke e. Electric fuel pump, Holley regulator f. Separate starter solenoid 3. My theory as to why it got parked revolves around the total mess the electrical system was in. I suspect they had electrical problems and then someone with zero skills dug in and made it worse. I spent many, many hours on the wiring. Almost every wire is green – great idea there. There is a new ignition switch and lock cylinder. I tore into the steering column and replaced or repaired the turn signal switch and horn components. 4. The 727 Torqueflite seems to work perfect. Ditto for the transfer case. 5. I have the build sheet. 6. This is a low rust vehicle, but it has it’s issues: a. The foot well areas seem to be very good b. The right front cab mount is good, the left one is rough c. Most body panels are good, the right rear cab corner is toast, I have a new one that is included ($150) d. The right rear wheel arch is starting to go, the other three seem OK e. The rear portion of the cargo area sheet metal is pretty bad. f. Most all sheet metal parts are available 7. Dash and the shifter console are pretty nice, as is the steering wheel 8. Upholstery is bad. Included are two beige buckets that are in great shape and would look good. 9. I cut out the instrument fascia to accept a standard 1 DIN radio. I will include two used ones in the sale. One should work. Two brand new speakers and sound deadener squares for the tinny sounding doors. 10. Dash pad is redone, but is still sketchy. It was very bad to start with 11. Brakes are very good, went in and tightened up the adjusters, plenty of lining left – near new actually. 12. New black powder coated steel wheels, tires are 70% Goodyear Wrangler 13. Exhaust is very good. Replaced tailpipe. There was a small hole in the right downpipe, below the flange, fixed that with exhaust weld goop and it is holding up nicely 14. Once everything was squared away, took it down the highway, cruises smooth as silk at 70 mph 15. Title in hand. Any questions please ask, 307-714-6530, Murray
