Involved in a minor fender- bender at a Walmart pharmacy drive through but because on damage to front fender and minor dent in the hood, (Dealer submitted an estimate using new Volvo parts including bumper cover at over $1000 plus a new hood at over $700 ,a genuine Volvo driver's side headlight at $450 as major parts required, plus paint and labor made the repair bill almost $4800) the insurance company totaled it. The impact was so gentle (speed not more than 5-7 mph, how fast can you creep in a pharmacy pick-up line?) that even the airbags did not deploy. I drove it home after the accident and to the repairing dealer, (the insurance company recommended local Ford dealership) with no problems. W hen the insurance co. totaled it, I felt bad as it was and still is a very good and reliable car. All the belts and hoses were recently replaced, good tires and it has a practically new battery. As the owner, I bought the salvage in order to fix it myself (Under Alabama salvage rebuilding laws) utilizing good junkyard parts, figuring it would not take more than a few hundred dollars and have my beloved car back. I have purchased a good set of headlights and started repairing the bumper. I have seen a good used hood for $150. The repairing dealer had removed some parts to prepare an estimate and I have them all in the trunk.In my 'guesstimation', buy the hood $150 + repair bumper $50 + get the two painted $500 = $700 plus odds and end add $50 and you get a very good daily runner for $750 more!!! Apart from my momentary lapse in concentration this car has been very well cared for. Two sets of original Volvo keys and user's manual are with me. I also have the Police report of the incident as well as the estimate of repairs based on which the car was declared a salvage.Some handy-person can have a reliable car very cheap! if not, Someone can make oodles of money parting this car out (I'd hate to see that though, but that's life I guess) and selling highly prized and difficult to find Volvo parts. Although easily drive-able, it will not be legal to drive it on public roads and as such, the buyer will have to make arrangements to tow/cart it away. I am putting a reserve price, which, if I don't get, I'll find time to complete the repairs myself. Thanks and God-Bless..
