MBZ spent more than $1B in the design and manufacture of the 140 chassis, and 1996 was the last year before the Chrysler buyout. Year 1996 C140’s got the 5-speed transmission, upgraded harnesses (1995), but still had the pre-buyout, German, hand-built quality. 1996 is THE year to own one of these rare cars. It is the most robust, over-engineered car in history. I am her second owner. I bought her in 2013 from the PO up in Dallas. She is a TX car with zero rust. I am selling her only because I am moving up North, and am transitioning into AWD vehicles. She is big, powerful, fast, and capable. She is sleek, steady, heavy, and built like a tank. She handles great with the 5-link MBZ rear end… like a giant sports car. She has huge brakes, and she is quiet and composed at speed. She will charge like a bull until the speed limiter bumps at 140mph, while still coddling you like a baby safely in his mother’s arms. She is a huge, confident, sexy girl. She has got excellent paint and an excellent interior. Her seating position is perfect, super comfortable, with great visibility. There is plenty of room inside. She has hidden compartments everywhere… inside the center console, rear console, door panels, glove compartment, front and rear armrests, etc. Her trunk is huge, and her rear seats will easily fit a pair of adults. The factory stereo ROCKS and will blow your ears out! Mechanically, done recently: -Head gaskets, belt, belt tensioner, belt guides, hoses, fluids, etc. -New hydraulic shocks all 4 corners and hydraulic fluid flush. - New window regulators (those double-paned windows are heavy!) Flaws? -The rear headrests are removed. Their servo gears both stripped and were unable to raise/lower them anymore. They will come in the trunk. -There is a quarter-sized dent in the front grill surround (see pic). Also a chip in the R headlight, which is covered w/ a bit of packing tape (see pic). There is no moisture in the lamp itself. She is ready to go… I would drive this big black bitch anywhere, without hesitation. Brakes are good, tires are good, fluids are good. The AC blows cold.
