Vehicle Detail
This is a 2003 Yukon XL 4WD 1500. I purchase the vehicle new and it has been a great auto. About 6 months ago it started losing antifreeze in the reserve tank. The low coolant alarm came on. At the time I just added more coolant and did not think about it. About a month later the low level alarm sounded again. This time I started looking in to it and found that it could be a cracked head. It was very common for this engine and year to have this happen to it. Most of them would crack around 75,000 to 100,000. My cracked about 178,000. I read on the web how to diagnose the problem. I was able to pull the valve covers and put pressure on the coolant system. When I did this a leaked appeard around where the valves guides are in the heads. I saw it leaking on one head then I looked at the other one and it was also leaking. I then went to AutoZone and purchase two reconditioned heads and installed. I also tried some engine flush to clean the gunk out. After installing the new heads I drove the car for 500 miles and changed the oil. Everything seemed to be going well. Next I changed oil at 2000 and 3000 miles. I started noticing the oil pressure going down. Normally it had always been around 40lbs. Around 182,000 miles the pressure started getting down around 20lbs. It then has been slowly getting lower. Currently, when it is up to temperature the pressure will drop to 10 lbs. I have read that the bearings probably have been 'washed' out. The antifreeze has caused the bearing to fail. The bearing clearance is getting wider causing the oil pressure to reduce. Then this is causing the upper engine not to get lubricated. The vehicle is in pretty nice condition. It needs engine work. Someone could repair the old engine, they could put a long block in, or they could install a used engine in the vehicle. Currently the vehicle will run but it is knocking and making a valve clicking noise. The 4WD works well and the body is in good shape except for 2 rust areas around the back wheels. I have made a video that shows details of the vehicle. Please watch and understand Video-2003 Yukon XL for Salehttps://youtu.be/XF1NvX6Tz0I Here is link in case above link does not workThis vehicle could be fixed up. The current engine could be rebuilt. Someone could get lucky and only have to replace the main, rod and cam bearings. There is some body work to be done. Someone could also buy the vehicle and part it out. All seats but the driver's seat is in very good condition. All the electric seats work fine. The rims are in good shape with no corrosion. Instrument panel works. All glass is good. Doors all are fine. The transmission has never had any problems but it does have high miles. The transfer case has a crack in it. About 3 years ago I repaired it with JB weld. Since then it has wore out again and I filled it in again. Please watch video for more details on this problem. Local pickup only.
