Vehicle Detail

Given my riding days are at a close, my 1961 Panther M100 is offered for auction, in addition to the BSA currently listed on eBay as well. Those of you that are familiar with British motorcycle know how unique and rare the Panther is, both here and in the UK. Each bike was hand assembled (and signed) by one mechanic at Phelon and Moore, Ltd. and in comparison to Truimph, BSA and Norton, the actual number of bikes produced was very low. Phelon and Moore closed their doors over 50 years ago, but their rugged, well built bikes still generate a tremendous interest and following, including a very active Owners Club with extensive technical and parts resources to enable enthusiasts to share experiences and keep their machines on the road. The bike here is a 1961 M100 Deluxe. It features a 600 cc -single sloper-design engine with a 4 speed gearbox. I have put extensive time and resources into the bike to make her a reliable and attractive motorcycle. A non-runner when I acquired her, she received an extensive going through of the electrical and fuel systems, suspension, and major functional and cosmetic improvements in the form of a new, proper fuel tank, front bars, switch-gear upgrades, the addition of a side stand (additional to its center stand), brakes and tires. Smiths Chronometric speedo and amp gauge work perfectly. Frame, rims, and sheet metal appear to be in good shape, but original steel fender was replaced by a glass-fiber unit apparently many years ago. It is in excellent shape, and duplicates the original very nicely. A proper seat made to original P&M specs was sourced in Europe and fitted, as well as a completely new UK-made exhaust system. The Deluxe Model was fitted with a mag-dynamo, that allows the bike to run on magneto only, but with the added capability to charge the battery for lights for nighttime. The mag and dyno on this bike function perfectly. Engine wise, she pulls very strong through all gears, oil pressure is good, and bike starts very easily when the proper procedure is followed. The Burman gearbox shifts positively and runs quietly, but will leak a bit if the bike sets for a period of time. The gearbox is dated 1961, as is the engine commission number, so both appear original to the bike. Like many older British bikes this M100 will weep some oil, but it is not excessive, as long as the proper levels are adhered to. All in all, I feel that she is a well-sorted out Panther M100, but anyone expecting a low to no maintenance bike without quirks and needs should probably look elsewhere. Clear Texas title in my name, and I am happy to answer any questions or provide additional pictures. Happy to work with your shipper, but I cannot crate the bike. Thanks for looking at my auction, and good luck bidding!
