2004 Land Rover Discovery 2 131K Miles No Reserve Auction! Intro: Every few years my mom gets into a newer Rover and as such her babied “Red Rover” as she calls it, is up for grabs. She originally wanted this one for the color Alveston Red. What made this truck even more special to her was the Alpaca Beige interior. It’s a pretty unique color combo. It’s been babied while she’s had it and has been a reliable performer even throughout a pretty brutal summer. She drives it every day to and from school (she’s a teacher) in stop and go LA city traffic with the occasional wild and crazy super market run on the weekend! Recent Service History: This truck belongs to a 75 year old school teacher! It’s about as tough and reliable as she is and it needs to get up and go to work every day, just like her and it’s been kept in really good shape. Here’s the latest: - Complete Headgasket and top end service $2200 Value - Brand New Radiator, waterpump, thermostat, upper and lower hoses $1000 Value - Complete Tune Up including STI wires, OEM plugs, belt, air filter, oil change, tranny service, coolant system flush $895 Value - Brand New Pads and Rotors including shuttle valve $1450 Value - Brand New headliner, ebrake and tcase boot covers, concourse detail $800 Value - Clean California Title, Registration up to date and clear, just passed new stringent California smog and safety tests. The Big Picture: Overall, she’s a beautiful car. The paint is shiny and smooth but it’s not immune to its share of imperfections. The front bumper was actually perfect right up until she went to have it detailed – the detailer stepped on it to reach the back of the hood and crunch. The rest of the bumper is great. The side wings, the central core. Just that top intake louvre has a crack in it now. The only other bigger blemish it has is below the LH rear window. I have no idea what caused it, it was there when she got it and no one knew how it had gotten there prior. Outside of that: She’s a non-smoker super clean car inside. The seats and steering wheel are brilliantly clean with no rips or tears. The carpet is still clean and soft. As I mentioned the headliner and both shifter boot covers are new and she feels like the luxury car she should be. While I wish the exterior was as nice as the inside, it wasn’t meant to be… it needed to be a truck my mom felt great about driving and spending time in and not nice enough where she was afraid to drive it for fear of parking lot dings, dents, scratches and so forth. The motor is powerful and shifts smooth. No ticks, no knocks, no oil pressure lights, no CE lights or ABS lights, no overheating. All creature comforts work great – heat, AC, power seats and windows and locks. The factory audio works great with no speaker rattles. The tires have plenty of tread, by California standards. This car should suit any purpose – commuter, weekender, guest vehicle. It’s a great candidate for a family run-about as the rear bench has the rigid bolt car seat anchor points (03’s and 04’s were the only Disco’s to have them). Beyond that, since she’s a really nice, but not perfect truck with a lot of mechanical attention paid to it, she would also be the perfect 1st car for your teen driver as it is really safe and spacious OR the perfect platform truck for an off-road build since you would likely fit a winch bumper anyway and the ding below the window would probably be the least of what’s in store for that truck! This auction is scheduled purposefully with a weekend in the middle of it – if you live close and schedules align – you can go see her. Once she is purchased, she is yours, and transaction completion means vehicle knowledge and sales terms are understood and accepted. While every effort has been made to make her as safe and reliable as possible, you should always be prepared to deal with the ins and outs of a used car. Just because it is “new to you” doesn’t make it a “new car.” Typically the best way to finalize the transaction is a wire and from there a bill of sale will be sent along with the title. It is the buyer’s responsibility to cover shipping arrangements and vehicle pick up should be relatively easy as my mom will be home to assist. For those who are unfamiliar, when in revearse, the rear bumper has parking/distance sensors that sound off faster and faster as you approach something behind you. - YES - runs and drives great. lots of power. no running issues. smooth and quick tranny. YES - sport mode works great. - YES - this truck has the LT230 transfer case with locking center diff. it shifts from low to high without any effort and comes in and out of lock nice and smooth. There is no binding on the cable shifter. This feature is an upgrade over the 2003 D2. The '03's had an LT230 without a locking center diff.
