1996 Ford Contour LX V6 24V DOHC, 170HP. Great little car that runs well. I'm selling it for a friend who just moved and had a kid leave the nest so she no longer needs this car. Here's the backstory: The car was bought new in 1996 by a neighbor of my friend who used it to putter around their small town. In about 2015, the neighbor got something new and my friend bought the car because she had a teen in the house who needed a car. Now the teen is off to college and doesn't need a car so it's time to find a new home for the car. Because my friend was moving and didn't have parking space I took the car to sell for her and, being a professional mechanic, I went through it a bit to make sure everything was in good condition. Here are the imperfect bits: The odometer began working intermittently about 1 year ago; the car now has about 75,000 miles on it by my friend's estimation. The speedometer sometimes wanders off on its own but most of the time shows the correct speed. The cruise control does not always work; I believe this is related to the odometer/speedometer issue - they're all electronic and work together. The odometer/speedometer thing is apparently common on this generation of Ford but it doesn't harm anything nor does it indicate any other problem so it's not a big deal. There are small dings on the lower body from driving on a gravel driveway for years (look closely in the pictures, mostly driver's side). There are some minor parking lot marks on the front right side (see the pictures for details). The air conditioning was working fine but after I got the car the compressor's clutch bearings went bad (causing a loud scraping sound) so I replaced the entire compressor with a good quality A/C bypass pulley. The air conditioning could be restored at any time by installing a $140 A/C compressor and recharging the system. The front passenger side window's electric motor does not work. The front passenger right side vent has a few fins broken off. Here is what I have fixed: The automatic transmission occasionally had trouble shifting so I put a code reader on the car and found that it needed a Vehicle Speed Sensor and also had an Exhaust Gas Recirculation error. I replaced the VSS and now the transmission works perfectly. I tested the EGR for function (good) and fixed some crossed wires on its electrical connection. Everything is working correctly now and it no longer shows any error codes. The good bits: Besides the minor issues noted above, everything works. This car is the top-of-the-line Contour, it has power everything: electric windows, doors, locks, and trunk. It comes with both original sets of keys and both original multifunction keyfobs (pretty deluxe for 1996!). The original manual and other paperwork is in the glove compartment in the original pouch. It runs and drives very well and is a powerful, fun, "zippy" car! This is a great little car that will serve someone well for a long time to come. Please let me know if you have any questions.
