Vehicle Detail
1972 MG Midget convertible with a Pertronix electronic ignition. 4 speed, disk brakes in front and drum in rear. I bought the car a few years ago but it did not run. I changed the starter, spark plugs, cap, and rotor, wires, coil, battery, and cleaned the fuel lines and tank. I did have points and condenser but switched to electronic drop in for ignition. It was meant to be a father-son project to be his first car but he has not shown much interest in working on it. If the car is driven every day it starts perfect and runs good. If time has passed it takes a bit to get it primed and started. It still has original head so it needs lead additive is the gas. I only use non alcohol fuel. It has a few leaks but small. It looks like the rear crank seal for sure. I had planned on pulling the engine and upgrading the valves to the new style to use regular fuel. It has been a few years and without any time or interest from my son I am passing this fun little car on to someone that will be able to put a little more love into it and enjoy the top down cruise one some windy roads. One of the previous owners started to restore the car and comes with some spare parts and service manuals. I bought an electric fan but have not installed. The top has been replaced and is in good shape other than a small cut from the top being folded wrong and the metal frame sliced it. The heater core is in good shape and the heat works. The radio is original and AM only. The antenna wire needs to be replaced for it to tune in anything. The car has metal bumpers instead of the later years going to plastic so that is desirable. The wheels are painted wire wheels with knock-off center hubs. It comes with a small kit and jack as well as a spare tire. Turn signals and headlights/tail lights all work properly. The paint is shiny but a few flaws. It was repainted but not a perfect job. The carpet is ok but needs a drivers side replaced. Shoulder seat belts. I have a replacement one for drivers side that has not been installed yet. This car has not been eaten up by rust. It is in good structural shape. I have not driven far in the last few years and it has been garage kept in my care and the previous owners care. It comes with a car cover. In summary this car is a blast to drive, sitting so low to the ground it makes 40mph feel like 70. It handles well in the curves and is a direct feel to the road. A great grocery getter and country road cruiser. It can only muster about 60-65 mph so not a car for the interstate. If you were to put some work into it and upgrade to a five speed then it would make a fun commuter car. If I could keep it I would pull the engine, change the rear seal and all other gaskets, refresh the head to use modern fuel, replace the dual carbs with a single, and upgrade to a spin on oil filter instead of the canister with element and try to convince my 14yr old that it is a cool first car. Good luck bidding and hopefully you are the next owner!!
