Vehicle Detail
This 62 Galaxie is an early example of an American Muscle Car before anyone knew what a muscle car was. The 406 engine with 3-2 barrel carburetors was identified with the G as the fifth character in the VIN. This 406 configuration developed 405 horsepower as it sat new on the showroom floor in 1962. The engine in this car is more powerful as the result of a rebuild in 2003. The machinist's engine calculations sheet shows that this engine is now 416.411 cubic inches. As far as I know this Galaxie has the original drive train. The 4 speed T-10 transmission has also been rebuilt. The car is a bit of a beast to drive since there is no PS or PB's. But it runs well and is wickedly fast. The 3 Holley carburetors have been tuned by a speed shop. None of them leak gas onto the intake manifold. I bought the car from a party in Southern California 16 years ago. A great deal has been done to improve the performance and reliability of this Super Ford. The Galaxie wears the same paint as when I bought the car. Fully restored cars like this Galaxie with the relatively hard to find 406 engine can sell in the $40K and higher price range. You can have this one for a lot less and enjoy driving it anywhere rather than leave it in a garage because you're afraid to have it damaged. Here is the information from the car's Data Plate and engine markings: DATA PLATE 65A. A. 35A 18E. 26. 55 ENGINE BLOCK MARKINGS; CYLINDERHEADS. #39 PASS SIDE CYL HEAD--C2SE. FORD LOGO 6090B. DIFDRIVER SIDE CYL HEAD--C2SE 6090B DIF BEHIND WATER PUMP--C3AE-6059A DRIVERS SIDE BLOCK HP C3AE DIFI took this data off of the engine block during the rebuild process. This is a good looking car with a good interior, excellent mechanicals and nice but older paint. It is not what I would call a completely restored car. Be prepared to pay 40K or more if you want something "perfect." Whoever buys this Galaxie can drive it anywhere right out of the box. You are buying a piece of history at what will be a reasonable price. This car brand new was the closest an auto enthusiast could get to buying a NASCAR racer off the showroom floor in 1962. Maple Valley is about a 30 minute car drive away from the Sea-Tac Airport. If you want to drive this home I'm sure you would make it but bring a suit case full of money for the gas!!
