Please read entire description before making a bid or offering to purchase: 1983 Toyota Diesel Hilux Long Bed Pickup VIN# JT4LN44D6D2207277 158,109 Miles Clean NC Title In My Name 2.2 Liter "L" 4 Cylinder Inline Diesel Engine Non Turbo 5 Speed manual transmission New clutch, clutch master and slave cylinders New Alternator New Starter New brake master cylinder 3.73 Rear axle ratio Limited slip rear differential Factory Air Conditioning Power Brakes Runs But Needs Injection Pump Rebuilt Needs Driver Side Door and Front Fender and General Restoration No rust on chassis I purchased this rare truck back in 2010 from the original owner. He lived down the street from me and I remember when he bought it. I was just out of high school and I remember thinking what a neat truck it was. I have put about 35,000 miles on it. I replaced items that needed repair to bring it back into an every day driver. It is a joy to drive. It doesn't have power steering, but when it's moving the least little bit the steering is very light to steer. You can load up the long bed with whatever you can put in it and it will haul it. Not fast, but at diesel engine speed. The previous owner had a camper shell over the bed most of the time he owned it so the bed is in pretty good condition, at least where it counts most. Some rust in spots where the side meets the bed floor. The tailgate still works ok. No rust on the chassis, I will add some more pictures. Chassis has double sided steel welded together for strength, like the way they made the FJ40's. The chassis is very well built and meant to last for years if not rusted out. I quit driving it when the injection pump started leaking diesel fuel. The engine takes some oil, I would add around a half quart when I would refuel. Fuel tank holds 19 gallons I believe, so the range would vary with how much you loaded the truck. It would get in the low 30's mpg and it gradually went down to around 25 mpg with the pump leaking. The engine still runs ok, but I guess the rubber seals in the injector pump have hardened up and need replacing. Anyways I would fully rebuild the pump once I pulled it off. As for the driver side door and fender damage, a local young man approached me to buy the truck after I had parked it and he wanted to buy it. I agreed and let him drive it home. He forget to set the parking brake and didn't have in gear and it rolled down his drive into some bushes while he went inside the house to get something and had the door open. The door hyper-extended back into the fender and both were bent. I believe that's all that needs replacing. The cab is still square and the passenger side door works ok. As for the front bumper, that was slightly bent when I bought it and the roll into the bushes added to the angle. The rear bumper also had a bent corner when I bought it from the original owner. It needs a general restoration and repaint on the body, including the replacement of the driver door and fender. Hood and cab top is just surface rust. Like I say, it runs and drives fine, but the fuel injection pump will need rebuilding before you can turn it into a daily driver again. The 5 speed transmission always shifted smoothly and never gave me any problems. I replaced the glow plugs and the glow plug relay still works ok. The original seat shows some wear, but the cover is not torn yet. Springs and cushioning are still ok. Carpet is fading out from time. I pulled the belts off the air conditioning compressor when I bought the truck, so I don't know what shape it's in. Overall, it still a good basic truck, but it does need some repair to bring it back into daily driver status. I saw last week a truck just like this one restored brought 16k. So don't be afraid to invest some repair money into this one. I hate to part with it, but it's too good a truck to not be enjoyed by someone who wants to bring it back to life. $ 500 deposit at purchase. Balance within 2 weeks when you pick it up.
