Vehicle Detail
One of the rarest of the rare Porsches, a true Unicorn in the land of Porsche. Ideal car for person who wants to round out their car collection with a development car. This is a single digit VIN car! These cars have been climbing in value as the 911 market jumped up significantly. The Porsche Club and other magazines have been running articles almost monthly on the merits of the light Front engine 924 and derivative cars. The car was built in 1985 and owned by Porsche AG until sold by Porsche Cars North America in late 1986. The car is registered as a 1987 US model car. Per Porsche Classic the car was shipped from Neckarsulm Plant to Weissach as all 924/ 944 engineering and development was done in house. The build sheet print out from Porsche shows option codes 734, and 735 in German, which translate to Development Engine, and Development transmission. I have only been able to find two other Porsches with these codes in the world, one a 944 Turbo, and the other a 911 Turbo that is documented as a test mule. Based on information available and talking to Porsche Classic department it appears this car was most likely used for the 968 Turbo RS engine development. The Museum has bene contacted, but say they have not found any documentation as little information was kept by Porsche from the 1980’s. I have the dealer print out of build options like the COA to document the development items. I have traced the ownership history and have talked to the owners back to the original owner who was a P38 Pilot the flew over Normandy. He is now deceased so the trail is lost there. I was told he was a Porsche collector and he lived near the dealer in Southern California. The car is thirty years old so it is not perfect, but is a very decent surviving California car. There is no evidence of any accidents, rust, or corrosion. The paint is original with the exception of the hood where you can see a layer of primer and red as it was rubbed through, and one front fender appears to have been repainted based on paint chips under the hood on the fender lip. There is a dent in the driver side rear fender that may come out with dent pro service. The Tach is intermittent, the Tach lights are out. The rest of the gages work. Everything else seems to be in working order and the AC blows cold. The seats are in nice condition with no rips or tears, but some sign of use, so again not perfect, but very decent. Rear carpet appears to be faded slightly. Sunroof works. The dash has a crack, but otherwise nice looking and has dash cover on it. The paint is slightly faded, it appears that it will polish out, although I have not touched any cosmetic items as the car is still original and ideal to see how it was delivered from the factory. A considerable amount of work has been done either recently or not many miles ago to make the car solid and reliable. Work that has been done includes: new Factory Sachs clutch, clutch fluid and brake fluid flushed, new transmission oil, new oil and filter, new gas filter and fuel pump, new injector, new air filter, new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, Crank sensor replaced, AC recharged, battery removed cleaned and inspected around battery tray which has original paint still intact, new Tires, New Battery, headliner was replaced, rebuilt alternator, Bilstein front shocks, new brake pads, and rotors look replaced. The timing belts were inspected and are clean with clear ink print and no cracking. I have receipts for much of the work, but not all, with receipts as far back as 2003. The car has had some items removed to save weight, they were all packaged and put in boxes and are included in the sale. It was just misc easy to get to stuff that took little time to remove like the Radio, rear upper seat back, spare tire, hatch and hood gas struts, and the headlight motor and cross bar. Blaupunkt radio appears to be a replacement as it has a CD. The radio was intermittent on playing music. The bumpers were trimmed the struts were retracted, trimmed and re mounted to get the clean original European look. The car drives great and has strong performance as the weight is less than 2,500 pounds. I have primary used the car for Porsche Club Fun Runs in our local region and just completed a 120 mile run last weekend. The car has a clean California Title and the car passed California smog last time it was required to. Due to the difficulty in getting older cars to pass the restrictive california smog I am not interested in selling the car for use in California. So please do not bid if you are a California resident that plans on registering the car in California. Good luck bidding. I am starting the bidding low with no reserve. I have multiple sports cars and want to reduce the collection size to please my wife. Vin is not correct, could not get eBay listing to take actual vin so had to cut and paste one. $500 deposit due within two days of close of auction or will cancel winning bid. Can work with you on scheduling pick up. Balance of payment due at or before pick up, car not released until funds have cleared the bank, so personal/cashiers checks can take three weeks to clear per bank. Have 100% rating so you can bid with confidence. I and trying to be as accurate as possible in description, if you win the bid and change your mind I will return half your deposit for five days after close of auction. I have sold several cars overseas, so can work with your shipping company to arrange pick up. Good luck and happy bidding. Feel free to call 408-578-8232 or email with any questions. TimOn May-26-17 at 11:02:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Custom Upholstered floor mats. The fender dent is shallow, I added more pictures, but it just does not show up well in photo's. This is the sixth Porsche I have owned and is one of the best handling and smooth running cars of the bunch, it really does drive and shift well as it is a low mile car. Have gotten 27 mpg on freeway runs. On May-29-17 at 10:43:11 PDT, seller added the following information: The 924S is a fairly rare car by production numbers and years produced, so for those of you not in the know the 924S was effectively a narrow body 944. The 924S had the 2.5 liter Porsche engine not the audi motor of earlier cars. It was also faster in the quarter mile and top speed than the 944 as it was lighter and had less aero drag. The cars also had the five lug 944 suspension. Most all of the parts have a 944 part number on them. Car does not have air pump for spare tire. On May-30-17 at 10:09:10 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had question on CA. smog but the response did not post, the car passed CA smog last time but due to the difficulty in getting old cars to pass these days, it is the Buyers responsibility to deal with this and you must purchase as-is for california. If you want more specific details please call as different counties have different requirements from no smog to very restrictive depending on where you live.
