Vehicle Detail
This is a 1979 Roadster which has been restored by an experienced home restorer. It features glossy black paint, tan interior, a new vinyl top. The finish is not "show quality" but it is a great looking car for weekend drives. The main feature of this car is the upgraded mechanical elements which were done due to long experience with MG's. The restorer upgraded the fuel pump and filter (located in the trunk), installed a Pertronix electronic distributor, installed Like New carburetors from John Twist of University Motors in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The car also features a fully functioning overdrive, which kicks in on 3rd or 4th Gear by using a control button on the shifter. This works smoothly and quietly, as does the rest of the 4 speed transmission. The brakes were upgraded with a new master cylinder and booster unit, the cooling system was upgraded with a modern electric fan, and there is an oil cooler mounted as well, so the car does not overheat in any driving conditions. The lighting system was upgraded with modern relays on the lighting section of the wiring harness. The heater and demister and wipers all function correctly. There is a new stereo sound system with an 80W amplifier in the trunk, and high quality speakers behind the seats also mounted in the trunk. The car has a new vinyl top, which has been used for a couple of years but does not have major scuffs or scratches. The seatbelts work retract correctly. The carpeting is fairly new and in good condition. The seats are the ones that came with the car and have seat covers, but have not been upgraded to new vinyl or leather. New tires and repainted rostyle wheels with new chrome wheel trim rings. Correct PA title matches VIN numbers on car. The MG was originally Brown and I did some minor puttying and prep work and painted it black. I have a commercial painting business and do lots of spray work, so some of those skills are transferable to autobody work. I did not do need to patch any panels or replace rockers or fenders. I did have to replace the trunk lid because it was kinked by the prop rod mount. I purchased a used trunk lid and installed that. I can not see any sign that the car was ever wrecked, and I have stored it indoors in a heated/dehumidified garage for more than 10 years. The chassis has not been welded or repaired, and the car appears straight - the doors close and latch evenly. The paint as noted above is not "show quality" but does look glossy and presentable. I used basecoat/clearcoat with several coats of clear to finish.
