Vehicle Detail

Makes a great Christmas present! For Yourself! I bought and rebuilt this beauty in 2002. It was then I installed the motor that's currently in it, and most of the other pertinent mechanicals. (When I say, "I" I am generally speaking of my Ford dealers in town.) Meticulously maintained since--new in '16: Tires, Fuel Pump, Thermostat, front suspension. New in '14: Water Pump, Intake Manifold, Distributor, Ignition, Plugs, Wires. The odometer says @84k now, and showed approx. 76,xxx when I purchased it. So over the last 15 years I've put about 1000 miles per year on it--mostly parades, to and from shows, and cruising in the Summer. I always wanted a Mustang that looked like a HotWheel, and this is the result. The tires will chirp in 1st and 2nd gear, but I've never been featured on YouTube for leaving a car show if you know what I mean! This car is a pleasure to drive, and is built for long cruises or short runs around town. I've driven from Iowa to Chicago, Wisconsin, and St. Louis over the years and it's never stranded me anywhere. It's had a variety of engine treatments and configs over that time, including multiple hi-rise manifolds, dual-quad setups and various carbs. Right now it has it's most-reliable and fun-to-drive setup--and Edelbrock Proformer intake with a Holley carb. There's no need for an aggressive cam, since the headers and the Thrush's give it a nice rumble at idle. However, if you'd like to get crazy, I can include a second, painted hood that has a hole cut in the center for any obscene add-ons. To give it a little cred on the street, I installed a Detroit Locker for the posi-traction, and it's got a 3.18 gear in an 8-inch rear end for quick jumps from stoplight to stoplight, but still drivable at highway speeds. I couldn't tell you the top end, because I've never been there--but she'll do 75 all day. There's an original '65 Mustang AM radio in the dash, but it's not hooked up (The engine makes all the music I need. Can't say the same for whomever the previous owner was, who did the homemade dash cut for a typically-shaped after-market stereo. with the original installed, I don't even notice... .) Same with the heat. Never driven it in the winter, so it seemed like a waste. The body is a 9. Everything was redone in 2002. No accidents, or heavy bondo. Light filler for paint prep around the major weld points, but nothing uncommon or problematic for this year 'Stang. Pans are solid, no cowl rust, no trunk weakness. Solid from front shock towers to rear leaf springs. There's a slight bubble on the paint at the seam behind the passenger side door, and a few repaired chips, but it's so...well...orange...that nobody seems to notice. The color technically is a Lamborghini color called "Diablo." A tri-color process that frankly cost more than the rest of the rebuild at the time. As the sun glances over the car, you can see the subtle pearl in the paint. But it's not overwhelming. Just orange. The interior, in a word, is perfect. Black pony interior with the wood steering wheel. Haven't had any leaking issues, but I wouldn't power wash the thing. It's barely even been out in the rain. Seat belts added in the rear. All warning lights and electronics work. Right turn-signal doesn't auto shut off. And along the door sill on the inside passenger side, a little bubbling of paint. Headliner new in 2002 and still looks that way. No tears or wears in the seats. It still has the original window tracks, so rolling the windows up and down smoothly can be a trick. But it was never enough of a headache for me to ever dig it to that project. So what exactly are you bidding on? It's not a show car, but you could show it the day you bring it home. It's not a race car, but you wouldn't be embarrassed getting into the gas. In short, this is the perfect classic driver as it sits, and the best starting point for anything you might want to enhance later. I've absolutely loved this car, and you will too. I've put a realistic reserve on it--this isn't MECUM for goodness sakes. I can arrange shipping locally, or will use your shipper if you prefer. Buyer covers costs. If buyer is within couple hundred miles, delivery (by me) or pick up (by you) can be arranged for no additional fee.
