1972 Mercedes Benz 280 SEL 4.5, Automatic, originally from Palo Alto, California, last registered in California in 1992. This car has 27,942 original miles; the last service was done on 8/11/1992 at 26,634 Miles where it PASSED California Smog Certification. The car was shipped to Northern Virginia in 1992 and parked. it has been painted - original color was a darker green. The car is a project car with good bones to start from. No major body faults - some surface rust dots on passenger door. The floors seem solid from what I can see but I did see some rust in the trunk, left side, near the wheel. The front windshield does have a crack and a stone chip. I don't know the condition of the engine and have not tried to start the car. The spark plugs are in place and so is the distributor cap but the spark plugs wires have been removed. There is no battery so I can't check the electrical systems or the operability of the windows or lights etc. The front hood is detached from the spring arms - it can be opened but will not stay up in place. No hubcaps, missing 280SEL emblem on rear. The Interior of the car is old and needs a refresh, wood is delaminating and dry. The passenger door does not latch when closed. Seals around the doors will need to be replaced - rear doors are locked. The headliner is still in place but could use a good cleaning as well. The car has been sitting for 24 years and looks better in the pictures than in real life; tires appear to be in good shape. Between 1982 and 1987 the following work was done: June 1982 - Rear door lock replaced May - 1983 - Turning signal relay replaced, Ignition switch replaced June 1983 - Fuel lines replaced July 1983 - Replaced the alternator and Regulator October 1983 - Major Service done, replaced rear rotors and brake pads, Front Brake pads, Mounted and balanced four new tires December 1983 - Replaced Fuel pump February 1984 - Replaced distributor and front brake pads June 1984 - Replaced right front molding, secured front latch and replaced coil transitor January 1985 - Fixed heater coil, replaced starter and tie rods, install stereo system February 1986 - Major service, replaced front brake pads June 1986 - replaced resonator January 1987 - Hood cable was replaced, Minor service, replaced alternator belt, Last Smog Checked in California was in 1992The car is sold with a clear Virginia - it will need to be towed as it has not been started for the last 24 years and it does not have a battery.
