Vehicle Detail

First year of the SL500 R129. This is a Model 129.067 with a 722.6xx five speed Transmission and a M119.972 engine that puts out over 300HP. The car is all original without all the junk and GeeGaw upgrades that litter some of the cars. I am selling this for a buddy who is trimming his large collection. Car smokes. From the smell, it is oil. There are other wear items, such as the seats, the paint has aged, has no rust through, just cracking due to Enviro-wimpy German laws. Some air dam paint damage from parking lot lumps. No off smells, carpet is cleaned, recent wash and wax, solid glass all around. The soft top has normal wear but still has a few years left, the soft window is clear. Hard top is included. The tabs are current to the end of July. The AC works very well, as does the Alarm, Bose radio, lights, brakes, steering, seats and the top goes up and down. That will need some adjustment to fold properly and plumb. Headlights and tails are not damaged or cracked. Wipers for both headlamp and windscreen are functional. The engine bay is complete and looks very clean. This is beyond the time period of the biodegradable wiring harness, so no issues with that. I drove the car and there might be a miss on a cylinder. There was heavy smoke out the tailpipe. Could be a leak on the exhaust, or plugged converter. Pretty good shifting gears down the road, and backed it into parking space when I was done. Current wheels are chrome instead of the boring painted ones. The gold top has gone missing in the past twenty years, but was replaced with a very nice black one. The car looks pretty good with that two tone scheme, instead of just a bland golden blob. Adds real character and interest. This SL was recently owned by a TV Celebrity who loved to drive it, but was a little hard on the interior. Seller wants the car to find a new home quickly with a low starting price. A glance at what pooped out seems to indicate maybe an investment of $2-3k will take care of leather and other updating needs. Sold AS IS, where is, and buyer arranges shipping. Seller wants an all cash transaction, so if you pay through Paypal, please allow time for Bank Transfers and payment to clear.
