This auction is for a very nice, low mileage 1981 BMW R100RT. I bought this bike last year with the intention of dropping the engine and transmission into a café racer project I started. I haven't ridden it more than 10 miles. I have since decided to rebuild the engine on the project bike and keep this one all original. This bike is set up for touring with a backrest and BMW hard side cases, and heated hand grips. Included also is an additional king & queen touring saddle. The previous owner was rather meticulous about keeping up with oil and fluid changes and did a lot of the work himself. The engine is a strong runner, super smooth and lots of get up and go. The transmission shifts perfectly with no grinding or unnecessary vibration. The front tire is newer with probably less than 2000 miles on it. The rear tire is older but still plenty of tread. On the negative side, the left side valve cover does weep a little bit of oil, but only a few drops a month, not uncommon for these bikes. There is also a small leak or some weeping at the master cylinder. Cosmetically, its not perfect, but really not too bad for a 35 year old bike. There are two dents in the gas tank, a small one near the cap and a larger one on the top left side that is shown in the photos. Paint is good but does have a few scrapes and scuffs here and there. I would not hesitate to jump on this bike, as is, and go for a 500 mile ride. The bike could use a good tune up and a few minor updates, but overall a solid ready to ride BMW.
