BMW D50-2 50 HP Marine Diesel Engine BMW D-50-2 50 HP 3 cyl Marine Diesel This engine was bought new in the 1980's, but not installed in a rebuilt vintage sailboat until about 1993. Since then it has been used for mostly day-sailing, not cruising. After another long refurbish process on the boat in 2014-15, it was first used in May, 2015. It developed an oil leak at the oil cooler, and most of the oil was pumped into the bilge. The oil pressure alarm was not working, and the engine slowed and stopped. It did restart, but was shut down. The engine was removed from the boat. The top end of the engine was disassembled to review the extent of damage, all 3 cyliinders removed, and the center rod removed. The center cylinder rod bearing insert had spun. There is some damage to the center crank rod journal, it may be able to be cleaned up without grinding. Similarly, the rod may be reusable. The cylinders are all in good condition, no scoring or signs of overheating. The oil cooler has not been inspected. The engine has been re-assembled, but not tightened fully. Some o-ring seals and some gaskets are not installed. The center rod has no insert. Using the starter should not be attempted. The alternator and starter are included and are in working condition. The engine control panel and cabling to it, as well as the air cleaner cover, water cooled exhaust "tank", and Hurth transmission, are included, as well as a copy of the BMW Shop Manual. Pictures show it as installed in the boat before removal, as well as in the shop after removal. It is presently in covered storage on a pallet. The sale is "as-is, where-is", I will not ship. It can be loaded on a buyer's truck. If the buyer will arrange proper crating and make shipping arangements, it can be loaded in a carrier's truck.
