1987 Bertone X1/9 – Great Condition If you’re looking for a sharp, capable daily driver X1/9, this is the car for you. --------------------------------------------------- It has been mechanically refurbished by Midwest-Bayless Italian auto and ready for daily driving. This car has under 60K miles, and a clean bill of health after being daily driven for a few weeks. The 1500cc fuel injected engine runs great and gets super mileage. The chassis rides comfortably around town or on the highway. The transmission shifts perfectly in all gears. It has pretty nice exterior and interior. This is a reliable, mechanically sound head-turning daily driver. It has a couple of blemishes, but nothing glaring. This is great looking car that you can drive daily and not stress about parking in crowded areas. Body and Exterior The body does not appear to have collision damage. It has been repainted by a previous owner to its original color Mica Red with a clean finish. It is noticeably absent of dents and dings, and is remarkably straight when looking down the sides. This car shows evidence of previous all-season use, but the effects have been minimal. It has a few minor rock chips like those shown on the nose.It features a factory issue rear spoiler with both tips solid and unbroken. Fender arches are clean and straight with no evidence of repair.Windshield frame is clean with no rust anywhere around the periphery, but the glass does have a stone chip near the wiper.All lights and lenses are clear, unblemished and operational. Engine cover is solid inside and out. The plastic grill and air dam are in place. Floor pans and underside were factory rust-proofed and are solid. Floor pans have been epoxy coated on the insideThere is evidence of previous repair on the lower right front fender rocker. The other lower fender areas are good. Engine, Fuel, Ignition, Exhaust and Cooling System: 1500cc engine SOHC engine w/Bosch EFI. It features a 1500cc motor, with all maintenances and checks performed. New timing belt, tensioner, FI coolant temp sensor and plugs. All four cylinders measure exactly 135PSI compression. It cold and hot starts nicely. The engine bay is clean and wiring un-hacked, with original firewall insulation. New fuel pump and filter have been installed. The cooling system offers rock-solid temperatures and the fan works correctly. Fins are rust free. Heater valve and all controls work smoothly. This car was originally fitted with Air Conditioning, but the engine bay components (compressor and hoses) have been removed, simplifying maintenance. The original Air Conditioning heater core and push-button dash controls are still in place. Electricals Circuits in great shape, with excellent voltages, even with wipers, lights and heater fan on. Headlight relay mod for bright headlights. All accessories and lights work. Headlights pop up and down as expected, all cabin switches work as expected. Transmission / Clutch / Driveline The 5-Spd manual transmission is in excellent condition, and shifts flawlessly up and down with no synchronizer or reverse issues. Rear transmission mount, drive shafts, CV joints are all in great condition. Trans does not whine. Clutch works and feels fine. The hydraulic system has had the fluid replaced, and should not require service any time in the near future. Unlike the early 4-Spd cars, the extra 5th gear (.86 underdrive) allows comfortable cruising with typical freeway traffic. Steering / Suspension / Tires / Wheels / Brakes All ball joints, tie-rod ends, are in good condition with no issues. All wheel bearings are solid with no hum or play. New KYB Struts with sport lowering springs to give the car a lower stance. The car also has had the camber corrected to accommodate it being lowered.Braking system has been completely refurbished with new pads, drilled rotors and flex hoses. Alloy CD-16 “Iron Cross” wheels with very good condition tires.This car moves briskly, handles crisply, tracks straight, and is vibration / rattle-free Interior / Top The interior is very presentable. Dashboard has two cracks on the passenger side near the defrost vent. Black leather door cards, and OEM black carpet in good condition with great color and minimal wear. Power windows work.Seats have been newly re-upholstered in velour cloth similar to the original cloth insets, and are a nice look with the body color of the car. Targa top is in good condition with no scratches or chips. The headliner has been removed to make it lighter and easier to handle. Front and Rear Trunks Front trunk has all components and covers as expected. The vertical panels beneath the strut towers show some signs of previous all-season driving, but is a cosmetic issue only that is covered by the trunk carpet. The right-side pocket is clean.
