The Story: I've owned Land Cruisers for 34+ years, my first was a 1970 FJ55 named "Nairobi" I've owned every model/series built from 1960-2005. This 2 owner FJ40 (titled in 68) came from a local estate (I bought 3 of his vintage 4x4s) sale with 76K orig miles, owner is retired and used this cruiser to drive his grand kids around Silverton Colorado in the summer time. I was able to meet and speak with the owner which is how I got some of the info below. This is the most original, complete, factory soft top FJ40 I've had in more than 10 years. The Ramsey PTO winch has never been used, check out the vintage Stromberg hydraulic cylinder (I've never seen one like it) on the tow bar that's plumbed into the brakes for flat towing. The original owners manual, service book (shows delivery Jan 15 1968) tool kit, jack, original ignition key etc. are all present and it has 4 brand new Toyo tires on factory wheels. The body is perfect, there is not a single dent on this cruiser, even the bumper is straight, tail gate and floors are perfect also. The original column shifter is tight as are the tumblers in the ignition, the parking brake, vacuum shift on the fly 4x4, high/low works as does pretty much everything else. After examining and driving it I do not question the odometer for a second. The big 6 starts instantly, idles quiet, no smoke, runs cool, great power, steers tight, shifts perfect, tracks down the highway dead on at 60mph and puts a big "SE" grin on my face every time I drive it. Everything looks very correct under the hood, factory air cleaner, Aisan carb etc and a brand new alternator. The rust issues with these rigs are well documented and this one is no exception but not nearly as bad as most I come across. That is dirt/mud, on the floor boards in the pictures not rust, there's not a single dent on the skid plate which is unheard of here in Colorado. According to one of my books Toyota imported only 2700 FJ40s in 1967, does not break down how many of those rigs were factory soft top models. If you want an original, low mile, super complete rig for restoration or to drive and preserve as is, this is the one. This Land Cruiser was manufactured in September 1967, was first sold and titled in January 1968. There were quite a few changes and upgrades in the1968 model over previous models. This FJ40 is titled as and equipped as a 1968 model FJ40, eBay will not let me change the year without cancelling the auction and starting from scratch.
