Vehicle Detail

I purchased this 2000 Honda Insight one year ago for a friend with a 140 mile round-trip commute to work. The idea was that I would buy the car and fix it up for him. Unfortunately, while I was in the process of working on it his carpool expanded to 3 people so he was no longer interested in the Insight. When I bought the car it was in rough shape. I had intended to drive it home since the previous owner told me that although the transmission was slipping out of certain gears, it would make the 200+ mile trip home just fine. This was not the case. So, one year later and after more work than I care to remember, I am selling the car. My commute to work is less than 20 miles and I have a Nissan Leaf, which is one of very few cars (all of them 100% electric with limited range) more economical than this one. Here's what has been done to the car: Rebuilt (new bearings all around) low-mileage 5-speed manual transmission and new Exedy OEM clutch. No ISB noise, no synchro issues or grinds in any gear (even 2nd on a downshift). The rear main seal was also replaced (no easy task.. the electric motor's rotor must be removed to do this). New OEM Honda EGR valve (the correct part for the Insight... Not the Accord valve) and thoroughly cleaned EGR plate. No "herky-jerky" when driving in lean burn mode (which happens regularly and reliably). All new ground straps and rear engine mount. *All* new OEM Honda brake and fuel lines (these commonly rust and are a HUGE job to replace). Brand new OEM Honda underbody panels and new aluminum panel under the engine (see photos). This aluminum panel offers superior aerodynamics and greater durability than the factory plastic panels. I reliably get 62+ MPG without doing any special hypermiling stuff. The previous owner said that the IMA battery was replaced in 2010 by Honda, but I have no way to verify this. It works perfectly (without the use of a grid charger): The car starts from the IMA battery every time, the auto-stop works reliably, and the assist/regen functions work properly. I have no idea how much life the battery has left in it, but it behaves normally from what I can see. Neither the IMA or the "Check Engine" light has come on during my ownership. The Good: Runs and drives perfectly (62+ MPG) Properly functioning IMA system. Lots of new parts (see above). Proper Bridgestone Potenza RE92 LRR tires with about 50% tread left. Interior fabrics in good shape (but need a good cleaning). Air Conditioning works properly. The Bad: Paint on front bumper and mirrors in bad shape. Wheels have lots of "curb rash". SRS light is on. I suspect this to be an issue with the seatbelts, but I've never investigated. For those very familiar with these cars, you will recognize the value this Insight represents. Most of the common issues have been addressed and it runs/drives perfectly (with no oil consumption between 3000 mile Mobil 1 0w-20 oil changes). As you can imagine, even doing nearly all of the labor myself, I have invested over $6,000 in this car. This vehicle is being sold as-is, where-is with no warranty of any kind. You are welcome and encouraged to inspect the vehicle before the auction ends. Buyer is responsible for picking up the vehicle or making shipping arrangements.
