Now I walk to work and can't justify the cost of a new battery pack, for the little I would actually use it. This conversion was done by an electrical engineer and all the under hood wiring is mounted on a 1/2" clear Lexan sheet which is easily removable. Super clean wiring job! Looking to find a good home for the truck with someone who can get good use out of it, and appreciate this beautiful conversion. Battery Powered Electric Truck 1995 Chevrolet S-10 Conversion: Standard gas powered S-10 converted by former owner to all electric, 2009. Removed engine, cooling system, fuel system, and exhaust system. Installed conversion kit from Electric Vehicles of America. Conversion cost $15,000 +. Purchase: Purchased by current owners in November of 2009 for $10,000 on Ebay. Motor: Advanced DC FB1-4001A. Direct current 9” diameter motor mounted to clutch with adapter plate. Peak horsepower with 144 Volt battery pack, approximately 100 h.p. Batteries: 24 Exide GC-145 6 Volt, deep-cycle, flooded lead acid batteries (golf cart batteries). Nominal total voltage of 144 Volts for traction batteries. Four batteries installed in the front, 20 installed under the bed. Original 12 Volt battery still used for 12 Volt systems. Approximate weight of traction batteries, 1600 pounds. [Current battery pack needs replacing.] Charger: Elcon 3000Watt, 120/220V charger (usually charge overnight). Astrodyne SP-480 DC-DC converter used to charge 12V battery with power from traction pack. Controller: Curtis 1231C, controls current from battery pack to motor. Transmission: Original 5 speed, manual transmission with clutch. Fourth gear rarely used, fifth gear never used. Steering: Original power steering replaced with manual steering gear. Brakes: Power brakes assisted by electric vacuum pump. Heater: Ceramic electric heater used for heater and defroster. Tilt Bed: A tilt bed system with gas cylinder lifts was installed to provide access to batteries mounted under bed. Suspension: Additional leaf spring and Timbren suspension system added to maintain original vehicle height with extra battery weight. Safety: Batteries isolated from motor by two Albright Contactors, which must be activated by turning ignition key and pressing accelerator to close circuit. Two fuses installed, front and rear, to protect battery circuit from overcurrent. Inertia switch installed to open circuit in case of impact. Miles: 52,161 total miles, 9,559 electric miles. Electricity Cost: Approximately 4 cents per mile. Range: Approximately 30-40 miles depending on speed, hills, and battery temperature. Top Speed: 78 miles per hour. Maintenance: Regular cleaning of batteries and checking of battery water level. Brakes. Condition: Everything was in good working order last time I drove it. Charger has very little use on it. Tires good. Does need new battery pack and has some rust around the rear wheel wells.
