Vehicle Detail

1955 AJS 20B 500cc Twin. Excellent restoration project with lots of spare parts, some new. All the major components are here and someone spent a lot of money toward this project. The Headlight unit is already restored and includes the little side pilot lights and a nice looking chronometric speedometer. There is a new .030 over Piston set including pistons rings pins. These had a price sheet in the box that they cost $342 over 10 years ago. The crankshaft has been re-ground .030 under, and the rods were re-conditioned and fitted with new .030 under bearing shells. There is also a new center main bearing shell (no thrust shims though) and two brand new roller bearings. The crank is the narrow journal type, and the center web seems to be round and shows no sign of any damage. There are 2 sets of cams. 1 set is cleaned up and look like new, and another set came out of the spare engine, and look fine. There is an extra crankcase 54/20B20019, and a crankshaft which is damaged on the spline end, which has an extra set of rods. All the sheet metal is very nice. Rear chain guard and number plate appear to be re-production. Gas tank needs cleaning, but appears to be solid, and only saw 1 dent on the left side below and to the rear of the left tank badge. Magneto throws spark, although I assume it’s wise to service and have the capacitor replaced. The Dynamo motors well and is presumed to be good. I did not take apart the B52 Gearbox, but shafts are free, and it easily shifts through the gears (while turning the shafts of course). I think all the parts are there for the clutch, except for the center nut on the release plate and the rod. The seat is good except for a couple of little superficial melted spots in the seat area about the size of 2 dimes side by side, however there does not appear to be any puncture. I did notice that one of the Engine/gearbox plates is not correct. I have restored many Motorcycles, and I think that most of this is great stuff. I assume any purchaser will be familiar with the twins, and therefore will know much more about these than I do. Engine number: 55/20B23729. Frame Number is A23513 More pictures are available on request. There is no Title so will be sold with a CA DMV Bill of Sale. I will ship anywhere, but the buyer must make all arrangements and cover all costs.
