Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a late model 1952 MG TD2 with a concourse level, attention to detail restoration. The goal in the restoration of this TD was to maintain factory originality, period correctness, reliability, modern drivability and perfection of material finishes. Starting from an excellent condition original driver in 2007 to 2008, the car received a no expense spared, museum quality restoration and has less than 2,500 miles since completion. • The original numbers matching engine was professionally rebuilt and now has the correct seals for modern gas, 9.3 to 1 compression ratio, ported & polished heads, heavy duty valve springs, larger valves and pistons, better cam, balanced and blue printed. The engine now has a possible 68 HP+ (0 to 60 mph in about 14 sec.) vs 54 HP (0 to 60 mph 21 sec.) of the original engine. The engine is now capable of revving way over redline, but always kept under 4,000 RPM. The oiling system was also enhanced with better designed and machined oil pump. The oil gauge reads 80 PSI when cold and 60 to 70 PSI when at normal operating temperature. The SU carburetors were rebuild using a larger jets. The crank received the modern seals, the rear Scroll Seal came from Moss Motors, so it is not a big oil leaker. The generator and the voltage regulator were recently re-manufactured,(Also the car was converted to negative ground.) new Lucas starter and new SU fuel pump. The car is still running the stock point system that I just replaced, along with spark plugs wires, spark plugs, cap and rotor. The engine also has a new polished stainless steel exhaust, polished finned aluminum valve cover and side plate cover. All of the factory correct hoses, hose clamps, original type fan belt, plug wires and cap. The engine also has beautiful braded steel lines, brass fitting and copper pipes all with polished patinas. • The rear end was professionally rebuilt and converted to the desirable 4.3:1 rear end gearing that allows the car to maintain freeway speeds without having to over burden the engine. The car achieves a respectable 3500 RPM @ 60 MPH, 3,750 RPM @ 65 MPH and 4,000 RPM @ 70 MPH, possible 100 MPH @ 6,000 RPM. At 70 mph the original rear end gearing would be around 5250 RPM with a top speed of under 80 MPH! • All parts on the car are ether new, rebuilt or restored. Every item on the car is working correctly (except the clock) including all the electrical items attached to the cars new factory correct wiring harness. All the chrome is original to the car and was re-plated, high quality multilayer single stage enamel paint job, providing a mirror like reflections at every angle. The paints surface quality also extends to the engine compartment and underside of the car. All the cars painted finishes are exact matches of the 1952 MG factory correct color palette. • The MG's cooling system has been enhanced and is running a clean stock radiator with an electric cooling fan, Moss Motors water pump and modified original thermostat set to open at 60 degrees Celsius and the restrictor plate, Redline Wetter Water. I drove the car last week on a hot, 100 degree day on the freeway at 3800 RPM for 50 miles and the temperature gage stayed around 90 degrees Celsius. • The original 4 speed transmission was professionally rebuilt in 2007 and shifts nicely, has no usual noises, not too difficult to make perfect shits. • The cars steering and suspension are like new and feel good in the corners and at freeway speeds. When driving briskly you get good smooth feed back to the steering wheel and no vibrations. The new modern 15-165-80 radials help a lot. • The original breaking system in this TD is all in order and like new with very good pedal feel. The brakes stop well on emergency breaking, very straight and full control until lock up. The car stops quickly with no pedal fade after multiple hard brakes. I just lubed and adjusted the fly away emergency brake system as well. • I have just changed all fluids with fresh. 20w50 engine oil and filter, new type synthetic DOT 4 brake fluid, 90w gear oil in the rear end and 90w120 gear oil in the transmission. ATF in the dash pots, 20w motorcycle fork oil in the rack & pinion and the oil in the lever shocks, 50% mix of water and green antifreeze and Wetter Water. I also lubed all the Zert fittings, so it is ready to be driven and enjoyed. I believe the car can be driven reliable to anywhere in North America. Overall the 63 year car is like new, has no excessive movement or unwanted noises or raddles. The car is surprisingly fast reliable and corners well and will out perform a MGA. Everything on the car works well and is in near perfect cosmetic shape. To replicate this 1952 MG TD in today's world, you would spend countless hours and twice as much as I am asking. This MG TD represents a great collector value today with and will only increase in the future. With the current volatility of the stock market, I think your money could be safer stored in the garage, just like smart investor have done in the past to weather the storm. The little TD is an award winning, handmade, moving piece of automotive sculpture. The car was chosen as number 1 of the top 10 cars at the Aubrey TX Sonic Sock Hop 50's car show on June 27th 2015. The MG took first place in its class at the McKinney Texas Red, White and Boom Car Show on 4th of July 2015 250 cars and 8,000 visitors. This TD won first place in its class at the Denton Texas Lake City Misfits car show on July 18 2015. On July 25th 2015 I attended the North Texas MG Club Natter, The Gathering of the Faithful event in Rowlett TX and it overshadowed all the MG's at the event and everyone was impressed.
