Vehicle Detail
First thing I did after digging my GS750 out from my back garage was to admire its basic style and figure how nice it can/will look again...I knew the old battery was NG, so put on the jumpers from a utility 12VDC battery I keep around and charged up...found I also had to jump across the start-relay lugs to get it to crank - relay needs cleanup/tuneup or Rplmt...The motor cranked over fine, with a healthyauthority....So I drained out the old oil, and put in new (3200 ml - about 3.4 qts), and dug out a can of starter fluid...then, while jumping/cranking it, I sprayed the joyjuice into the airbox - and it fired up well (!)...and as long as I kept feeding in more spray the motor kept going....But no gas feeding into the carbs, and the carbs are surely a bit clogged up, and both the carbs and the tank petcock need cleaning out...The bike also needs a Rplmt headlight installation - either the original-type rectangular faired-nacelle, or a conventional round or square assembly - the headlight mounting ears are in place...Also, the frontneeds a Rplmt pair of flicker units...the wiring bundle is all ready to go, with the open receptacles (for the three items missing) obvious for hooking up...The Tachometer cableneeds replacement - I recall the tach needle got very wavy with large swings up and down while holding a steady RPM...The brakes need to have the master cylinder and slave calipers cleaned up and exercised to loosen them up... There is a fair amount of superficial rust and/or aluminum oxide in the obvious places...the main rustiness if on the aft side of the exhaust header-pipes and on the mufflers themselves...all the rust is surface-superficial and can be polished off with the right kind of chrome polish and some elbow grease....The oxide on the engine surfaces is the usual old-bike stuff - brass-wire brushing and then metal polish willmake it all look good again....The painted and plastic/rubber surfaces are in good shape, and will be sparkly with the appropriate detailing...The tires (with tubes) are in good shape, but they are 25-plus years old, so call for new replacements....All in all, when the completion of parts and detailing are done, this GS will shine and draw comments again....I would keep it and do the work myself, but I thotI should try selling it first, as I'm getting older and it's not so easy to maneuver a big bike around anymore...e.UPDATE (08/28/2015) ! - The State of WA has informed me that they cannot locate the records for this bike in their data base...Something about it being over 30 years old, and not registered along the way....To obtain a replacement Title, I'm informed that I would have to jump thru some hoops of WSP inspection, apply for a new Title, and then wait FOR 3 YEARS (!) before the new one is issued....Better to work the process in whichever state it goes to.... I haven't been able to find the Title (clear, in my name) so ...I will release the bike with a detailed/signed Bill Of Sale and a signed statement...And bike comes with its last license plate and registrationsticker (expired APR '91).....So a state-to-state Title search thru the licensing bureau(s) could be successful Winning Bidder must make a $400 deposit into my PayPal account within 48 hours of end-of-auction....then pay off balance, again into PayPal, or into my CU account by Electronic Direct Transfer, withthe specifics to be provided ASAP...All amounts are in U.S. Dollars.....The Buyer is responsible for arranging his own shipping of the bike, and pickup MUST occur NO LATER THAN 08/10/2015 EOB...Local pickup by buyer is OK, again MUST BE DONE no later than 08/10/2015....(Seller is to be travelling out of state after 10AUG, and won't be able to dispatch the bike after then, until OCT....)
