1974 VW Thing I love my Thing but my kids do not like wind in their faces anymore and so it does not get driven that often. It is mechanically stable with a lot of work done over the past couple of years. It drives great, shifts great and brakes great. I have driven it up to 70 mph, with the new engine it is quite peppy and Ive gotten more thumbs up in it then either of the two Maseratis I have had. The Good:- 1776 engine built 21/2 years ago with dual Weber carbs with very little mileage since built- Oil Cooler installed- Bilsten Suspension ( takes bumps like a champ)- Brakes, Drums and tune up performed 6 months ago- New wiper motor- Top has no holes- Racing seats installed ( 5 point)- Wood steering wheel but original will be included- Spare included- Retro Sound radio with two aux inputs, 4 speakers and a 8" woofer ( amp to woofer just recently lost power but stereo works as it should)- Roll Bar installed- Wood luggage insets on hood- Brush grill with flag holes ( supposedly very rare)- Really cool vintage Wolfsburg Shift knob The Needs:- the slide in windows appear to be original are complete but ruff. Could be reframed.- paint is fair, some dents and small bumper cracks here and there. please see pics. The previous owner painted it and not a traditional thing color- there is a minor shimmy at high speed ( 55+mph), the classic VW specialist states its due to the wheels are slightly bend as every other part has been addressed. The wheels are supposedly original and I was advised to keep them, so I haven't changed them. The car is really great, and if i had the room to store it, without driving it I would.
