Vehicle Detail

I bought the Firebird in 1985 new from a Pontiac dealer. The Firebird is being sold, "as is." Based on the NADA guide rating for a 1985 Firebird with a 305 V8 engine, the car is worth 1,900 at low retail. I made the buy it now price 1,900 based on the NADA guide rating. I had the car inspected on June 15, 2015, to see if it would pass the PA safety inspection because the current sticker expires on June 30, 2015. I was told that the brakes were still good but the car had other problems that needed repair such as the center link has play in it and the rear sway bar links. The other problems mentioned were the idler arm and front-end alignment; the front tires have uneven wear, the right head light won't go up, and a broken driver's side outside door handle. I was told it would cost around 600 dollars to repair those items in order for the Firebird to pass the PA inspection. Of course, the reason why the cost is so high is that it's mainly the labor cost.If you have the ability, I'm sure you could fix these problems for a lot less money. I know I have the ability to fix the broken door handle but it would be too painful to do with my back problems. I don't have the ability to fix the other problems. This is the main reason why I am selling the car because I can't afford to make the repairs necessary for the car to pass the PA safety inspection. After June 30, 2015, I won't be able to drive the car and will have to store it at a friend's house because my apartment complex won't let me park the Firebird on their lot without a current inspection sticker. The Firebird still runs great but I won't be able to drive it after June 30. One thing on the plus side is that the Firebird has a full size brand new spare tire stored in the trunk plus the normal spare tire that comes with the car. I used to make over 80,000 dollars per year but now I'm too old to get a full time job and have to live on my extremely low Social Security income. The bottom line is that I can't afford to own a car anymore. On Jun-28-15 at 10:51:33 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been completely honest about the condition of the Firebird and will inform the current bidders if I notice anything that they should know about during the bidding process. While driving the Firebird yesterday I noticed that the "check engine light" has come on and is staying on. The Firebird engine seems to be functioning normally. The Firebird had a complete tune up on 2/05/2013, so I don't know what this new development means. I have all of the maintenance records for the Firebird going back to the day I bought the car in January 1985, which is the reason why I know the exact date for the last tune up. I have also noticed a squealing noise coming from the right wheel. I thought it might be the brake pad but the sound goes away when you apply the brake. The 30-point courtesy check sheet that the mechanic gave me after the inspection on 6/15/2015 has the front brakes at 3/32 and the rear brakes at 7/32. The sheet indicates that the front brakes should be changed soon. This new noise that I'm hearing could be the brake pad on the right wheel or something else, I don't know. Since I'm still driving the Firebird and have been driving the car for over 30 years I would immediately know if something doesn't seem right with the car. If this new information is bothersome to any bidder, you can retract your bid and I won't object. On Jun-29-15 at 18:52:31 PDT, seller added the following information: I have an update concerning the Firebird. I took the Firebird over to another mechanic today and had him inspect it. He decided that all of things the other mechanic wanted fixed wasn't necessary to pass the PA safety inspection and gave the Firebird two 12/15 stickers. Since the pressure to sell the Firebird has been removed because I can now drive the Firebird until the December 31, 2015, I don't have to sell the car for a low price. I have the option to end the sale now and cancel all of the bids. However, my income problem has not changed and I still can't afford to own a car. Therefore, I'm still willing to sell the Firebird but for a much higher price that the original opening bid of 500 dollars. I'll let the bidding continue and decide at the ending of the sale if the sales price is high enough to sell the Firebird. If the current bidders have any questions concerning this new development I will answer their questions privately. I asked the mechanic how long he thought the 305 V8 Chevy engine could last before a major breakdown. He said it was possible for the engine to last another 50,000 to 100,000 miles. On Jun-30-15 at 10:54:00 PDT, seller added the following information: I have an update for the Firebird. I have added two photos of the Firebird to the listing. One photo shows the current PA inspection stickers that replaced the 6/12 stickers and the other photo shows the current mileage for the Firebird. On Jul-01-15 at 19:57:16 PDT, seller added the following information: I have another update for the Firebird before the sale ends. So far, I have listed what's bad about the Firebird. In this update, I have listed what's good about the Firebird. Since I bought the Firebird in 1985 I have had 24,000 dollars in repairs done to the Firebird. This is the final update before the sales ends. I thought you should know what's good about the Firebird as well as what's bad so that you can make a bid that would be a fair sales price for the Firebird. The following is only the repairs since 2011: 6/7/11 Changed oil and filter, replaced strut assembly, and windshield washer pump. 6/6/12 Changed oil and filter, replaced entire exhaust system pipes, muffler, and front tire. 2/5/13 Changed oil and filter and engine tune up. Replaced spark plugs, air cleaner, distributor cap, fuel filter, air filter adjusted ignition timing, and idle speed. 12/17/12 Changed oil and filter, replaced starter assembly, and battery 12/11/13 Changed oil and filter, replaced rear brake wheel cylinders. 6/18/13 Changed oil and filter, replaced shocks. 3/5/14 Changed oil and filter, replaced water pump.
