Vehicle Detail
1973 Scout, Automatic, 2 barrel, Dana 44's disc front, drum rear manual brakes and steering. Air conditioning, not working. V-8 engine free (not siezed up) but no idea what size. Will do my best to describe the scout from the information I have. I bought this scout out of Texas as it had been stored inside since last plated in 1982 until 2010 when it was pulled out and sold. Still on the old Texas title, yes it is signed off...What I was told when I bought the scout was the following: The "SIDEWINDER" package was done by a dealership in Texas. They took 6 scouts and had the "SIDEWINDER" winch put on, lightbar and decals done by the sidewinder company (Hickey winch)(missing winch&controls). I am unaware if or what other things were added with that package maybe the fender flares and lift?? The original owner bought the green one out of the 6 they had on the lot. They used it on the ranch checking fences etc. The owner passed in 1982 so the scout went into the barn and the ranch was sold exept the house and a couple acres. somewhere between 2005 and 2010 the house was sold and a distant family member bought the scout took it home and had the intentions of restoring it. He pulled the radiator he said it leaked, it is in the back of the scout and I think that is all the further he got and it sat outside. I noticed alternator and coil are missing. I purchased the scout and had it shipped to me with the intentions of restoring it as well. I just do not have the time to do it. I actually had bought a 1980 scout with a 4cyl that the body was bad and was going to do a body swap bacuse the 1980's drive better with the axle camber change. It is in need of total restoration inside and out. The only thing good inside that I see is the door panels. Drive train and running condition is unknown. The scout body is solid with very little through rust I think I found 1 small spot lower rear quarter. I crawled under it, all the body mounts inner rockers etc in great shape. The tires are just rollers, it originally had white spoke wheels, the old bias tires were cracked and basically fell apart when we unloaded it. I think they were the original tires. I can not verify any mileage, the odometer currently says around 80,000. I have not done anything to it since I bought it other than put the roller tires on in and stored it in a wood shed. My main reason for when I bought it was the "SIDEWINDER" package, just something different, the clean solid body what really sparked my interest. Just really nice to restore something not having to use bondo and cost of replacing body panels and buying patches. . In a nut shell, if you looking for a solid scout project with something unusual that no one else will have, the extremely rare sidewinder package, very neat rattle snake on the side...it would be a awesome scout to restore. The decals can be reproduced I had talked to a company that does them I can pass their information along to you. I also found here on ebay the rattlesnake riding on 4 wheels decal....The scout is sold as is no warranty. Anyone is more than welcome to come look at it and check it out. I can assist in loading. I also can store it for a month or so if needed. You can also call me 517-899-1301 if you want anymore information.
