Vehicle Detail
1996 BMW 328i Convertible. 2.8 liter straight six cylinder motor with automatic transmission. According to the manufacturer's label in the engine bay, the color is "Boston Green". This car was listed then removed less than 24 hours later by ebay with the claim that it was a "Salvage Title". Truthfully, that may be accurate as I never had a full transaction history of this vehicle until I posted this auction and all the information was provided. There are some listed transactions that came as a surprise to me (I had no idea there were six owners previous to me). In any case, there is nothing on this Alabama title, nor on my previous New York State title that indicates that it's a "Salvage Title" so I had no knowledge or reason to post it as such. However, to comply with ebay's rules, and more importantly to present the entirety of the vehicle accurately to any prospective buyer, I've re-listed it as the "Salvage Title" condition that is consistent with their records. The new owner will get the legal, lien free, most recently issued hard copy title currently in my possession that doesn't contain any language relating to 'salvage'. Please read the entire description and review all pictures. This is a used car and it has its issues. In no way do I want to misrepresent any aspect of this car, so I urge any and all potential bidders to proceed objectively. I bought this car in February of 2009. Prior to that time, I didn't know the history or number of previous owners, but it has served me incredibly well as a daily driver and a for few long trips up and down the East Coast of the US (Alabama to New York a few times) with some other intermediate length trips. I've put alot of time and money into this car over the 6 years I've owned it and I have a folder full of receipts. Also, there's no significant rust on the body or the underside. For the last 5 years, it's been in the South of the US (Alabama), and the conditions are very favorable to preventing the onset of environmental aging. Also as you can see, there is a "non-standard" stereo system installed. The head unit is a Kenwood KTC-BT652U. Where the back seat used to be are two amps and speakers. One amp powers the two Infinity 12" dual voice coil subwoofers and the other amp powers the mids and tweeters. The sub enclosure is not a sealed enclosure. Following are the items (with receipts) I've installed: Suspension (4/2009) - H&R Springs (lowered), performance shocks, control arm bushings.Headlights & Side marker lights (9/2010) Power Steering Pump (10/2010)New Convertible Top (11/2010)Front Brake rotors & pads and rear pads (1/2012)Water Pump (11/2014)Radiator (11/2014) As stated above, this car has its issues. Most importantly is what I would classify as an engine condition. Last fall (November 2014), the water pump bearing failed destroying the plastic cooling fan and piercing the radiator. I replaced the water pump and radiator (as you can see in the list above). Unfortunately, the exhaust gas now has a scent of what I believe to be coolant. I've now become cautious in assessing the engine's remaining longevity. I truly can not stipulate the exact reason for the change in smell of exhaust gas, however, it's fairly reasonable to guess that the resultant exhaust smell and the preceding cooling system failure are most likely connected issues that require investigation beyond my skill. The suspension, though purchased only a few years ago, is stiff and no longer in new condition. The check engine light is on. The seats are old and it shows. The plastic backing is cracked, though the position motors all function as originally designed. The carpets are fairly worn. The outside driver's side door handle doesn't work (the inside does), and the passenger's side works fine. The AC (Air Conditioning) doesn't work. I've tried servicing/recharging the system. That worked temporarily, but most likely there is a leak as the system eventually stopped blowing cold air. Also, the climate fan only works on low speed. The paint has many scratches, scuffs, and chips. I'm selling this car for a combination of reasons. I recently bought a truck as I had purchased some undeveloped land. Obviously, the car was not suited for off road conditions no matter its condition. Now in the position to choose to continue to invest or sell the car, I'm choosing to sell. Shipping, if necessary, will be the responsibility of the buyer. Frankly, that is a headache I'm unwilling to involve myself with, and I believe it's fairly customary for the buyer to undertake that task. I mention it to be clear. As many miles and years as it has, it still does start and run and drive very smoothly. I drove it Saturday night (May 16, 2015) to get wings for dinner. It is currently 'tagged' (registered) and insured, and sometimes still my ride of choice as the gas mileage (and parking) is better than my truck. Prospective bidders are welcome and encouraged to see the car in it's current location (out front of my apartment) and/or asking any questions before placing any bids. Just send me an email through this ebay auction listing before the auction end.
