Description Not that it matters on a this old rig but a VIN scan shows 5 owners no accidents. Ignore eBay's ridiculous shipping calculator, quotes $598 to Albuquerque NM (216 miles) where I ship trucks on a regular basis for $150. My business enables me to get my hands on some pretty interesting, older, new car lot trade-ins. I've supplied all my buddies with their "hunting, camping, fishing, back country rigs" and Im sure there are others like me that want these cool old 4x4s. Please have realistic expectations, this seems like a solid 4x4 van, it runs and drives great, but it is 34 yrs old, has 138K miles and some to be expected issues. The Story: I do not normally list project vehicles like this but I have a weakness for ugly old unusual 4x4 vehicles. This is "The Big Fugly" a 1982 Ford Econoline extended 3/4 ton van with a 4 Wheel Drive Engineering 4x4 conversion. I had visions of big mudder tires, a camo paint job, logs for bumpers, finished inside like a rustic cabin with a big comfy bed, a huge rack on top for lawn chair sunset views, maybe a little wood burning stove, lol. My idea was a low budget, anti tech, primitive Sportsmobile, park it in the woods, set up camp, have some fun and who cares if it gets muddy or scratched sort of thing. My wife has made it perfectly clear that if I build it, my kids and I will be the only ones camping in it as we own an off road Jayco trailer with all the amenities. I think this thing is 3 tons of fugly fun and has a lot of potential. The Big Fugly runs and drives excellent, tracks dead straight down the highway at 60mph, steers well, stops well, engine is smooth, trans shifts good, well, as good as any old C6 ever did, lol, the 4WD works well, etc. I think this big ol rig is a good base to build on, at 12 ft long inside you have a ton of room, restore it, build a 4x4 camper, cabin rig, camp, hunt, fish, haul dirt bikes or whatever. The Good Stuff: I had the oil/filters changes, checked all fluids, dumped the 16.5s and installed 4 16 inch wheels with good tires, new windshield, new battery, had my mechanic check the brakes which are at about 40% etc. The 7.5L 460 V8 engine runs great, silent, no smoke, auto transmission, locking hubs, 4x4 works good, everything pretty much works as it should, appears to be a good solid old 4X4. The Not So Good Stuff: I'll say it again, it's fugly, has some dents, scrapes, holes, a few minor rust spots here and there (see photos) Ive posted close ups of the worst stuff, the old brown graphics actually make it look much worse than it is. There's some rust at the bottom of a rear side door, some in one fender (see photos) nothing structural. The interior seats are in poor condition, as is the dash, carpet is shag and gross, lol. (see photos) Both front and rear bumpers are bent (see photos) There is one mount in the bed with rust (see photo) There are 2 holes in the bed floor (see photos) and a couple in the roof. I dont think the choke's working, no big deal but would be hard to start come winter. Previous owner removed the factory AC, bracket and hoses are there but no compressor (see engine photo) The transmission pan leaks, needs to be resealed, there is an small exhaust leak when under load and I'm sure other stuff as you would expect on a rig like this.
