Vehicle Detail

Up for Auction is this fantastic 1956 Triumph TR5 Trophy in Original Unrestored Condition. The bike is in excellent running condition. I personally rode this motorcycle in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in Chicago last Fall. It starts easily, runs strong and the brakes work very well. It is very complete and has all original parts. It even comes with the orginal air pump. This motorcycle has a very interesting history. I purchased the bike 2 years ago from the brother of the original owner after his brother had recently passed away. George, the original owner purchased this motorcycle new in Venezuela in 1957 while he was stationed there in the military. See attached photo of a young George sitting on the bike with a bunch of bananas over his shoulder. See attached paperwork from Venezuela. George later imported the motorcycle into the USA and the bike has a State of Illinois Title issued in 1966. George was meticulous and kept all the original owners manuals which are included in the auction. The Triumph Instruction Manual (From Engine# 70930 - 1956), Maintenance Instructions Manual for Lucas Electric Lighting, Triumph Guarantee, Triumph Instructions in Spanish (1957), Triumph New Seasons Bulletin from 1956, How to Keep Your Motor-Cycle Tyres Fit Brochure from Dunlop (1955) and a Safe Motorcycling with Triumph brochure from 1956. When I purchased the bike from George's brother it had clearly been stored for over 40 years. The Illinois license plate on the bike was from 1972. After I purchased the bike and inspected it I was delighted to find that the bike was in great mechanical condition. It only required a carb rebuild and tune-up and she fired right-up very strong. The magneto still delivers a healthy spark. I had the very cool reversed Speedo rebuilt and now that works like a charm. Motorcycles are only original once and this bike is truly a time piece... She shows her age but it is very rare to find a motorcycle this original that is close to 60 years old. A good old fashioned detailing would go a long way to making this bike look spectacular. I preferred to ride it this way as a salute the George who clearly loved this bike and took very good care of it for a great portion of his life. I would like to see it find a good home. The motorcycle is available for local pick-up in Chicago, IL.
