Vehicle Detail
1966 Ford Mustang hardtop. I've owned this car for over 20 years, and since I do less and less with it each year, its time to sell. 6 cylinder engine, automatic transmission (has a V-8 tranny), single barrel carburetor. Mileage is unknown. Power steering and electronic ignition. Over the years a lot of mechanical parts have been replaced for safety and necessity. Just recently I replaced the battery and heater core as it had started leaking. Transmission has been rebuilt twice in 20 years. Car has had new suspension, brakes, shocks, springs and tires. Alternator, starter solenoid, and radiator have all been replaced. Entire exhaust system was replaced, upgraded the exhaust pipe to 2.25 inch and a Flowmaster muffler was installed. I have not done anything with the engine block... its been driving very solid all this time. Some cosmetic things have been replaced over the years too, such as the headliner (done by a professional upholsterer), window cranks, window "fuzzies", window seals. Passenger side exterior mirror was added, along with a day/night mirror inside. Replaced the front window when I bought the car in 94. New front bumper. And the biggie was a complete media blasting to remove the old paint, repaired all the dents, some rust but not much (CA car...), and removed the Bondo to realize the car originally had a vinyl top. Also replaced some body panels such as front and rear lower valences and the hood. Car was repainted a 1973 Ford color called Medium Blue Metallic and clear coat was added. Vinyl top installed by professional upholsterer and is in very nice condition. I have not done anything major with the interior (carpet, seats)... I think this car was restored back in the early 80s and they removed the bench seat that it originally came with. I have a bench seat and the hardware that I will be including in the sale. Car had already had the stereo removed when I bought it, so I just embraced it, replaced the stereo, and replaced the front speakers. Rear speakers were added and they are Pioneers. Car is from CA as I mentioned earlier... I'm military and moved to the IL area of St Louis in 2005. Mom and dad towed the car out here in 2006 and its been garaged and never driven on salt ever since. It mostly comes out during spring and fall... it doesn't have air conditioning and St Louis summers can be brutal. I do not know how long the car lived in CA, but judging by the undercarriage (no rust) it had been there a while. As I mentioned, I dont do much with the car anymore, so its time for someone else to take care of and enjoy it. My ideal owner would be someone who respects it for what it is... Its just a simple hardtop without anything fancy or different except the bench seat option. Its always been a reliable driver and it just needs to be driven and maintained. If you are looking for a father-son project car, this car still has room for improvement, but could be driven as is. I really don't want some teenager wrapping it around a telephone pole, or someone to chop it and turn it into a convertible resto-mod. Yuk (but if that's your thing, cool, but please don't do that to my car). Shipping will be the buyer's responsibility. I would not recommend driving it home unless you are local... Old cars are very different to drive and I wouldn't want you to be in an accident. $500 is due upon the conclusion of the auction. Once you have a chance to look it over and are happy with the car, full payment is expected, via bank check or wire transfer. I know you have questions, so please send them to me. I will update the ad with details and more pictures soon. On Mar-23-15 at 18:08:29 PDT, seller added the following information: * Update 23 March: Replaced the battery again today... Might have been a bad battery or the alternator needs replacement. I will take it somewhere to have the alternator checked tomorrow. If it needs replacement, I will take care of that. On Mar-24-15 at 14:53:33 PDT, seller added the following information: * Update: Tomorrow the car will get a new alternator and a carburetor rebuild. I also added a lot more pictures, including the undercarriage and of the mentioned dent above the right rear back up light. Also, to answer some of the questions I've gotten, please see details below:Yes, the driver's side exterior mirror is off the car (as seen in pic #2). I have the mirror and its in good shape, but the screws will not grab the sheet metal anymore. The horn does not currently work. It was disconnected at a car show because it somehow started draining the battery. I will add a picture of the bench seat when I can get a good pic of it. It needs upholstery work. The VIN is: 6F07T1294966 - 1966F - Assembly Plant Dearborn Michigan07 - 2 DoorT - Engine Code, 200 ci 1V 120 hp129496 - Consecutive Unit Number The door data tag is: 65C - 2 Door Hardtop, Bench Seats R - Ext Color Ivy Green Metallic36 - Interior Trim Black, Bench06K - Date Code, K is October35 - District Code, Lansing Michigan2 - Rear Axle, 2.836 - Transmission Code.. I need to look into this more.. 6 is not listed in my book, so this should be a W for 3 speed C4 automatic, or maybe a 6 is a surprise detail I never knew... The paint and body work was done in '98 in Sacramento and Woodland CA. The vinyl top was installed just after the paint was completed in '98. I have pictures of the before and after, but they're not electronic, sorry. The transmission was last rebuilt in 2006 just before the car was towed to IL. It was done in Vacaville CA.The car was towed on a car trailer, not on a tow dolly (i.e., all four wheels were off the ground during the tow).If you would like to inspect the car, you are welcome to. I have a place that will allow me to put the car up on a lift, and you can do all the looking you want. If you want it inspected by a mechanic, you are responsible for that cost. I insist that I am with the car while this is done.
