It was the successor to both the 190SL and the legendary 300SL Gullwing. Today, its popularity as a classic is increasing. It is nimble and practical while the styling is delicate and well-balanced. All this translates to increasing prices on the classic car market for these cars, especially for the 280SL model. An ideal all-weather, year-round driver, the example offered here wears Silver over Burgundy upholstery, appointed with an automatic transmission, Michelin white wall tires and period Becker Europa among other features. It received an exterior repaint years ago in period correct color, which has begun to show age in areas but still remains presentable as a driver, while the cabin displays fresh leather trimmed upholstery throughout and complimenting edged square weave carpeting. The desirable color-matched "pagoda" top is an excellent option to its additional black canvas convertible top. Hardtop stand and dust cover accompany. Mechanically, the Mercedes-Benz generally performs well and drives nicely. The engine bay and undercarriage appear nicely detailed with proper cadmium plating. Recent services include all new filters, fluids, motor mounts and a general tune-up. This 280 would be best considered a presentable "driver" for continued enjoyment. The engine is not stamped with a number, but it appears to be period correct. Previous corrosion repair is evident and appears to have been contained. Correct mat and date coded spare with cover reside in the trunk. Overall the car appears very nice with a good stance and beautifully detailed interior and engine compartment.
