Vehicle Detail

Here is a custom-built bike from a 2001 Yamaha YZ125 chassis with 2000 KTM 200exc engine. This is the second one I've built and the last one for reasons stated below. It has honestly been ridden twice by me only this fall and now parked, stored indoors. My intent was to build a great trail bike for single track and desert riding with a light feel and plenty of power. It has met and in some areas exceeded my expectations. I've had other KTMs (20 bikes in all) and could never get the handling and front ends of my KTMs up to my level of expectations. Thanks but don't offer suggestions; I've done them all and then some with multiple suspension tuners and by doing my own fork swaps (plural) and tuning. I can get KTM rear ends right like no amateur mechanic out there but fronts are elusive. I know what works, how it is suppose to perform for me and to my liking. This is why I used a Japanese chassis. It is titled for street in NM; your state may have additional or lesser requirements. The lights are not connected though can be easily as the engine comes with a lighting coil. It comes with (not pictured) a rare, clear Cycra oversized gas tank, spare seat, cover, extra air filter, 18" rear wheel, and top-end gaskets. The wheel is not mounted as I was waiting for the back tire to wear out beforehand. The top clamp is a Topar with real ProTaper bars, Cycra handguards, WER stabilizer, Works radiator guards and case guard and skid plate, ProMotoBillet kickstand, ProCircuit pipe, FMF S/A-muffler, 45-toothed steel-rear sprocket, titanium-rear spring, and all new plastics and graphics. The engine has very good compression and no ring blowby as viewed from the exhaust port. The carb is jetted for my altitude (5k') and dry, winter conditions. This bike has been my most responsive and adaptive and cooperative to jetting, which is one of the reasons I like this engine. That's a good thing as carb access is not ideal in the 125 frame. The frame is powder-coated metallic gray, a Suzuki-like shade. The pipe is nickel plated. Both of these were done for me by separate plating shops in El Paso to my specifications. The suspension was professionally valved and sprung for me, 150lbs B trail rider, ex-enduro rider from the old days of timekeeping. It feels fine except the forks have this unavoidable stiction feel inherent to the USD design; I am used to soft, conventional forks, so it just may be me. On the trail - in use - they feel fine. Its just when not riding, pushing it around, they feel stiff. I pieced the bike together one year ago but stopped due to wrist pain. I had to have hand surgery, which put the project on hold until healing this last the summer when assembly was completed and perfected. My doctor said cartilage is absent from one wrist and nearly gone in the other so I am reluctantly giving up modifying and building dirt bikes like this forever, and maybe giving up dirt riding soon. With the hopeful sale of this bike I plan on taking up dual-sport riding. I am 61 YO and plan on retiring in 5 years; due to the deteriorating condition of my joints, it looks to be a favorable move towards dual-sport riding as my only means of enjoying riding - I am not ready to give up. Since my access to a machine shop and welding equipment has diminished I've had others do that part for me to my specifications. I am a degreed and experienced engineer and work at a NASA facility so I know how to specify and direct skilled craftsmen, which is my specialty at work. I don't have receipts but in my mind I know there's in excess of $2500+ into it, not including my time. Possibly closer to $3k. I am not enthused though can deliver it to CA, AZ, NM, CO, NV, UT, or west TX for gas money, or you can pick it up, or we can meet part way. It can be palletized for pickup by your shipper or delivered to your shipper in El Paso at no charge. Do not ask me for shipping quotes; arrangements and quotations are your responsibilities. There is nothing wrong with it; all things work as expected. Sold as is. No warranty or guarantees.
