Vehicle Detail

This 1971 Mustang Mach 1 is a Q-code (cobra-jet) with ram-air car. This car was restored to good condition in 1993-1994 and has seen very little use (under 1000 miles) since then. Has been garage kept full time. The engine is a Q-code 4-bolt 351C Cobra-Jet, which is correct for the car. I had the engine is rebuilt to include several performance features without changing its stock appearance. It has a Cam Research hydraulic roller camshaft and lifters with SVT Motorsport 1.73 ratio aluminum roller rockers up top. You don’t see a roller cam in the 351C very often. The cam is driven with a double roller chain. I’ve also had MPG intake port plates installed into the 4 bbl heads to increase throttle response at lower RPM while still preserving the higher RPM deep breathing performance inherent to these heads. I’ve driven the car both before and after the port plates were installed and remain very impressed with their effectiveness. The heads are closed-chamber quench-type from 1970 and are equipped with Cam Research single piece stainless intake and exhaust valves (2.19 intake, 1.71 exhaust) with single grove 10-degree retainers and keepers. The valve springs are 450-lb open / 140-lb closed and are seated in performance spring seats. The Carb is a Holley 750 CFM model with vacuum secondaries and an electric choke which is fed with a Holly high volume fuel pump. I have a restored correct original Autolite 4300D carb that I bought from Pony Carbs a while back that goes with the car. I run the Holley because the engine runs MUCH stronger with it in place of the 4300D. I’ve installed a braided MPG oil bypass that provides much better oiling to the rear mains and eliminates a known deficiency in the 351C oiling system. The pistons are 0.030” over TRW forged aluminum flat tops that give a 10:1 compression ratio with the 70’ closed chamber heads. Runs excellent on premium fuel without detonation. The factory ram-air was completely restored by Perogie Enterprises and functions flawlessly. The original distributor was replaced with an Accel electronic performance unit, but the original comes with the car. The exhaust is comprised of Hooker 6211 headers with a custom crossover and dual high-flow glass packed performance mufflers mounted in the correct stock location. The trans is the original 4-speed toploader that was completely rebuilt by a local toploader expert, and is connected through a Centerforce performance clutch. The trans also has the original Hurst shifter. The rear axle is the original 3:50:1 ratio but has a new ring and pinion along with a new Ford Traction-Lok (posi) differential. The Magnum 500 wheels are original from 1971 and have some mild chrome peeling issues, but still look great for 71’ originals. Tires are fairly new BF Goodrich TA radials with under 2000 miles. The car interior is in good condition and still has the original Mach-1 comfort weave. Dash pad is a brand new (old stock) original Ford pad. The headliner is also brand new. The factory air worked great after I had the car redone but has recently developed a small leak that should be easy to fix. Power steering box also has a small leak, but I’m providing a newer (used) correct Saginaw SPA-T steering box with the car that I never had time to install that will fix the leak problem. I also have a brand new spare power steering pump that comes with the car. The Brake booster and master cylinder are brand new. Brakes are front discs, rear drums. The exterior paint is a modern base coat/clear coat in the original dark green metallic color, with argent stripes. There are a few minor scrapes and chips from storage, but nothing major. The suspension is stock with new lower control arms and ball joints and shocks. I have a set of new TRW front springs and polyurethane spring seats that I never installed but will go with the car. You probably won’t need them but I have no use for them without the car. This car does not have the flip down rear seat. The car has a Jensen AM/FM stereo cassette with a trunk mounted Jensen amp and rear deck mounted three-way speakers. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding on the car. If you need special pictures taken of a particular detail, let me know and I’ll accommodate requests within reason. I have listed most everything here and the car runs excellent. I will be happy to talk on the phone also- email me and I’ll reply with my phone number. The winner must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction and must make a non-refundable deposit of $500.00 within 48 hours of the end of this auction, which can be made via PayPal or certified check. The balance is due within 7 days or whenever the car is picked up, whichever is first, and must be paid by a certified check. The car is currently unregistered so I cannot drive it off my property. The new owner must arrange pickup and/or shipping at their sole expense. I will assist this process by being here to assist the winner or winners shipping agent in taking possession of the vehicle.
