Vehicle Detail
My husband bought this 1985 VW Westfalia full camper van 9 years ago for me and our dogs, and spent all his spare time redoing it before he died (without finishing it) this past May on our 33rd wedding anniversary. I need to sell it, because there was no life insurance and he had a lot of medical bills. He had the original engine replaced with a 200+ HP Subaru 3000 H-6 engine with 60,000 miles (he bought it from a Westy place that replaces engines in these vans on the West Coast), he also redid the electrical harness (which needs going over). The wheels were replaced with VW Synchro wheels and truck tires for off-road use, he planned to put skid plates on it. The air intake and exhaust manifold were custom made and installed, the welds on the exhaust work are gorgeous. He installed 3 batteries on a marine switch; one is designated for starting the van only, so if you kill the other 2 batteries while camping, you can still start the van and get home. The wiring may need to be sorted out so it all works right. I found the receipts, schematics, and paperwork in it a few months ago.It is in good shape for its age - some minor paint damage on the exterior, the interior is original and in wonderful condition for being 30 years old. Has new canvas top and full kitchen with LP tank, water and electric hookups. I think he was starting to replace the dashboard and gauges, but no parts I can find, and the original equipment is still installed. The engine belts and hoses were to be replaced, he removed the factory air and was replacing it with 2 stand-alone units, but he didn't get to it, likewise for it needing heavier rear shocks to accommodate the heavier engine. The title is in my possession and clear. I can't get it started, it's been sitting for 7 months, but he drove it the day before he died; he knew it better than anyone, it was his "baby." Like anything this old, I'm sure it needs TLC and more work to make it the dream van it was supposed to be. The sale is final when the auction closes, there is no warrantee, and it's being sold "as is" is my understanding of eBay's policies about this. If you want to see it before you bid, please let me know. I'm told this is a great project van to finish for the right buyer and, if you decide to resell it, there would be a nice profit to be made, as you can see from the other Vanagons for sale here.
