This vehicle is being sold "As Is". It is a typical 2007 Mini Cooper S with a 1.6L DOHC Turbocharged engine that has experienced ALL of the KNOWN problems that BMW MINI denies exist and for which they will not accept any responsibility. The timing chain has been replaced twice, once on each of two engines when the "Mini Death Rattle" showed up before breaking. This, the third, time the chain broke and at least one of the pistons has bent one or more valves in at least one cylinder. The timing chain was replaced on the first engine at 82,000 miles when the "Mini Death Rattle" showed up. The first engine failed at 85,000 miles mainly because the original plastic water pump melted allowing all of the coolant to leak out allowing the engine to overheat causing significant damage to the interior components of the engine. The decision was made to replace the engine rather that rebuild the original engine. A brand new engine was purchased from a nearby Mini dealer for $4,000 and installed. The timing chain was replaced on the second engine at 133,000 miles when the "Mini Death Rattle" showed up once again. The second engine has run well after the timing chain was replaced at 133,000, but snapped at 148,796 miles. There is one cylinder that does not seal when the valves are supposed to be closed indicating the valves are bent, which would require a new head or having this head machined to replace any bent valves.
