This No Reserve auction is for a 1998 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro AWD Tiptronic Four Door Sedan with less than 161,200 miles. I'm selling this car because I bought a new vehicle. The car has a clean title, has always been garaged, is smoke-free and maintained at and above Audi's recommended maintenance schedule. Extensive service records available back to 2001. The photos of the car are current and it's just been detailed. The ride is smooth, engine has power to spare, excellent handling as you'd expect from a German luxury brand and the car starts right away. The main features are: 4.2 liter DOHC aluminum alloy 300 hp V8 engine, 32 valves, variable intake, direct ignition. 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds. Fuel economy: 17 city, 27 highway, 21 MPG in combined driving. Engine sounds smooth and runs great. 5-speed Automatic Transmission with Tiptronic, DSP (selects from over 200 shift programs to match drivers needs) and hill detection capability. Transmission shifts well, but sometimes "hunts" between 3rd and 4th gear around 40 mph which is a common issue for pre-2000 models. "quattro IV" - permanent all-wheel drive system, includes TORSEN torque sensing center differential; front and rear electronic differential locks (EDL) Audi Space Frame Aluminum frame and body panel construction Cold Weather Package: Heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats 17-inch polished forged wheels w/ 225/55 high performance tires Anti-lock brake system (ABS 5.3) with electronic differential lock (EDL) and electronic rear brake pressure regulation Power sunroof, Power Windows, Fully automatic dual zone climate control, Power Mirrors, 14 way Power Seats, Nappa leather seat upholstery, walnut wood inlays, Anti-theft alarm system, 200 watt Bose sound system with 6-disc CD changer located in trunk, Front and side airbags, Halogen lights. This vehicle has had the following new parts/services, receipts are available: -Recent oil change (160k miles) -New car battery (155k miles) -Recent 30k mile service including spark plugs, air filter (157k miles) -Recent Timing belt, head gasket replacement, coolant flush (143k miles); Fuel filter and brake fluid flush (120k miles); -Suspension checked at 154k miles, coil springs replaced, no other issues found. -Transmission oil and filter changed at 80k miles. -All recalls up-to-date, including control arms. Always filled with Premium fuel. However as a person might expect for an older car, a few items need work: -"Anti-lock brakes" (ABS) light is on. My understanding is that rust around the ABS sensor is causing the light to go on. Common problem with Audis. Anti-lock braking is still operational and kicks in when needed. -"Brake pads are low" yellow warning light is on. The rear brake pads are worn and need to be replaced. I've purchased the new rear rotors and pads from Blauparts for $108 (and they're included with the auction) but the shop I took it to had a hard time getting one of the wheels off and I didn't want to pay extra labor time they were asking. Thus the rear pads still need to be replaced but they're not making noise yet. -There's a small coolant leak, diagnosed to be from the upper radiator hose. Current rate of coolant loss seems to be about 1 pint every 6 months (meaning I've only had to add coolant/water mix in Feb and Aug of this year.) -The A/C does not blow cold air. However when the system is recharged with refrigerant, cold air blows for a few months, indicating a leak in the system. A/C compressor was replaced at 137k miles so Cryoseal A/C sealant might fix the leak. -Right front and right rear tires tend to lose air, probably need tire sealant. Tires are Dunlop Sport M3 with 45k miles on them so they have limited tread life left, est. 5000 miles. -1 of the 2 rear left side tail lights is out. I've owned the car since 2005 and listed the issues I'm aware of, if there are any questions please send me a message. On Nov-18-14 at 18:29:03 PST, seller added the following information: Note: I'd like to confirm that the car has a clear Michigan title with no derogatory information. I also have a clean Carfax report for the car that qualifies for Carfax's $5000 Clean Title History Guarantee, the report was ran on 9/27/2001. Thus the AutoCheck "Recycling Facility record" from 9/18/2001 was a surprise, and I don't have more information on this. Personally I'm skeptical that a part was removed from this vehicle when it was 3 years old.
