I really hate to see it go, but I must now sell my 1982 Diesel Westfalia. It runs and drives well, and being a diesel is highly economical, especially for a large van. It is being sold with NO RESERVE so you may get it at a good price. Its life has been spent in Washington and Oregon and so it has never experienced salt roads. It is in very solid original unmolested shape. If you want one that is very reliable and still very clean, this is likely it for you. Always starts--even in cold weather. The diesel engine purrs smoothly and there is NO smoke. Was rebuilt about 30K ago. The previous owners kept the interior very clean and it remains so. It has a very good original heater and you actually are quite toasty with it in winter (this is a big plus). The paint still gleams brown/orange for the most part, but there are a few scrapes and dings. The area around the left rear wheel well has some of the paint scraped off--typical for these vans. So, it is not perfect, but still looks very, very good, and I often get compliments on it. The upholstery is pretty good. You can feel the springs a bit in the front two seats, so if you are sensitive, you might wish to add some padding there. Everything works as it should and it would be a nice daily driver and I think it would be reliable on long trips. As commonly happens with these vans, the roller mechanism on the sliding door is a bit problematic and you might want to replace it. I have lived with it the past two years--just takes a little more work to get it open. That's the only item I was thinking about repairing. I was told the refrigerator and propane stove work, but frankly I never tested them out. Everything seems to be there. The engine is the original 4 cylinder rebuilt diesel engine, and as I said, the mileage is great (engine was the vanagon version of the old diesel VW Rabbit engine--so easy to get parts, repair, etc.). The Van has been highly reliable for me, but as it is a 1982 vehicle, it is being sold without warranty.
