Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1982 Jeep CJ7 with 115k miles. It is a great example of a stock base unmolested cj7. It has not been restored (every nut and bolt replaced) but has been cleaned up quite a bit and made to be reliable and useable. That being said it is cleaner than a lot of the jeeps that claim to be restored. I have a small business selling semi-trucks and picked up this jeep around 6 months ago as a summer project (not as a money maker) and have had a great time driving it around Body: It was in good shape, clean with hardly any of the rust issues associated with the old Cj's. The body is very solid. The only rust issues we found(although the undercarriage has not been detailed so I am reporting only what I found) were two pinholes in the driver floor board where the floor mat was and about 5 pinholes in the rocker panels under the door on each side. These were all sandblasted (which is what caused the pin holes) and acid etched. There is also a dime size rust spot on the undercarriage where the floorboard meets the firewall on driver side (visible only from underneath). Everything else came off with a scuff pad. The vehicle was most likely kept in the dry desert from the looks of the under carriage. The body was partially disassembled for paint (hood, windshield, trim) and quite a few of the items that were removed were replaced with new or cleaned up and refastened with stainless steel. The interior, dash and hood were bed lined. The tub was painted two stage metallic green with a pearl (looks different depending on the light) looks black in the shade and has a reddish/purple tinge in some lights. Clear coat was color sanded. I didn’t use my regular paint guy on this truck and the paint came out ok however it is not show quality. I’m pretty picky on my paint and there are some sand scratches and several small bubbles under the door on the rocker where the acid etching was. I took a picture to show but they are hard see in photos. Do not stand out if you’re not looking for them. Would be a good candidate with diamond plate rocker covers. For the suspension, I wanted to make it drivable at highway speeds(CJ’s are known for being a little squirrely due to the wheelbase/age) I replaced the upper and lower ball joints, all tie rods and connectors, steering stabilizer ,front wheel bearings and complete realignment. Suspension is very stock. Shocks looked older but performed well so I left them on the truck. The truck now tracks well at highway speeds for a Cj. For motor it has a 2.5 iron duke. Not a ton of power but the motor is tough as nails and reliable(does not burn any oil in the 2k I drove). It is mated to a t5 5 speed manual transmission and Dana 300 transfer (4 wheel drive works and lights up on gauge when on) . All very stock. The motor has new alternator, plugs, wires, cap, motor mounts, transmission mounts, etc. and has passed California smog. It starts right up and runs well. The truck runs well at highway speed but with the 31 inch mud tires(good tread) taps out around 65(speed is set for stock tires). I parked my new car in the garage this summer and made this my daily driver to iron out some of the bugs. It was used to commute through LA traffic 80 miles round trip daily in summer heat and never let me down. That being said it is a 32 year old CJ and not a new wrangler or soccer mom’s jeep. The Cj’s drive like an old truck and are not the most comfortable daily drivers(expect rougher ride, sqweeks and groans). However there is a fun factor that kept me in it all summer. Gets lots of attention and thumbs up.The interior has been partially disassembled ,cleaned, wire wheeled and bed lined. To wash it simply hose it down. The front bench has a small rip on drivers side and is stationary(bolted) I’m 5 9’. It has holes to move back to fit someone around 6 feet. The rear seat has rip on top. Lots of the small odds and ends have been replaced(indicatiors, knobs, etc.). It has a very clean look to it. I kept the dash off to give it a cleaner old school look. Almost everything works including the washer/wipers. The speedometer needle is a little jumpy, the fuel gauge works but the graduation is off(although it will tell you when your full and empty). All dash lighting works. Heater/defrost cables all work (however I ordered a new defrost vent hose $20 that I misplaced in my shop I will connect if found-need to be installed for defrost-simple).Indicators including 4x4 work. The oil pressure and temp gauge do not work but I haven’t had time to go through yet. Most likely the sending units. Comes with new bikini top, full soft doors(splits into half door) and used full soft top in fair/worn condition(get through a season or two, zippers need stitching)New body items include: gas filler plastic, cap, shifter knobs, shifter boots. Grommets, windshield hinge gasket, stainless hood hinges, stainless vent cover, stainless hold Tail lights, all lenses, headlight, holdowns, stainless fasteners, knobs, Bikini top, rollbar cover, dash indicators, dash knobs plus a few more that I’m forgetting. As I wrote before this is a classic 32 year old cj7 and not a new car. Please do your research to make sure this is the right fit for you. Old cars always need a tweak here and there. It’s a blast to drive but not a comfortable long distance drive. Mechanically it feels sound and I don’t foresee any major issues aside from a clutch in a year or two(I can hear a small throw out bearing noise but very minor) If the new owner were to detail out the undercarriage(clean, undercoat, seals etc.) and the engine compartment(paint etc.) it would be one of the cleaner examples of a stock cj7. Thanks for looking and please feel free to ask questions. I want to make sure all parties are satisfied with the transaction. Also, please note that California requires sales tax and transfer paperwork fee($50) to be collected for transactions and transfers that occur within the state. If you are an out of state buyer please check with your local state DMV to see if the sales tax will apply to your local sales tax. It is possible to deliver in Las Vegas for a fee,
