Vehicle Detail
VIN ZFRAS0082D5501754. Ebay doesn't recognize this VIN so it told me to enter all those noughts instead. Any Pininfarina that is listed on eBay has this same issue because eBay has not entered the VIN series into their system.Title is clean in my name. I bought this car 11 years ago and have used it as a fair weather daily driver (never when roads were salted) for nearly 60,000 miles and started a rolling restoration in 2012. I got through most of the mechanical work and then happened upon a distress sale of a 1984 that had 1/3 the miles, a beautiful azzura (silver/blue) bare metal repaint, and AC. So I opted to buy that '84 and sell this '83. Around that time we also renovated and sold two houses and bought a new one so even though the Pininfarina has no back seat, it took one for a while. If you're not familiar with the history of these cars, check this link. You'll need to add a few dubyas to the front. roadstersalon.com/fiat-spider-history/ I have receipts (all from Colorado) going back as far as an original sales document (shows 347 miles) from Fischer Chevrolet in Boulder, CO on May 18, 1984. It remains rust free but has suffered the minor dents and scuffs that you might expect in 30 years; the worst dent is on the right rear corner, shown in one of the photos. I've modified it a bit and kept up with all the maintenance. In 2006 I replaced the stock seats with leather seats from a first generation Honda S2000. This required not only removing the sheet metal seat rails, but I also had to cut away part of the sheet metal floor stiffener hump that runs side to side beneath the seats. Original black leather on the seats is showing some wear but no tears or holes. I did exactly the same in the '84 since I was very happy with the seat exchange. I'm 6,5", so I have the seats as far back as they will go and also reclined a bit. With the seats back this far, the black vinyl tonneau cover (showing its age) cannot be installed. You'd probably have to move the seats forward about 3" to be able to install the tonneau cover. The front suspension was rebuilt (all ball joints, tie rod ends, and rubber bushings) when I got new Pirellis 6 years ago. The right front suspension is very squeaky now though so it may need attention. Rear wheel bearings replaced and right rear caliper rebuilt around 2005. New rear brake hard lines. New clutch in about 2010; I can't find the receipt. This was done by Apple Motors in Denver. Mechanical work in the fall of 2012 (less than 1500 miles ago) includes: New timing belt (third since I bought the car), tensioner bearing, water pump. Brand new radiator, hoses, and thermostat. Rebuilt distributor. New ECM, cap, rotor, wires, plugs. Coil is from the '84 and meets all specs. Cleaned and flow tested fuel injectors (all five) by a mail order service. New connectors and teflon/SS braid pressure line to injectors. New flexible fuel line from tank to injectors. High flow strainer added to fuel pump inlet. New master cylinder and brake fluid hoses to reservoir. New flexible air plenum. All vacuum hoses replaced with silicone. New air horns (LOUD) and compressor. The car has been garaged for all but the last four months; lost garage space when we sold the second house end of March. Back in 2012 I had bought a new lower console and Haartz canvas top, so I installed those in May of this year. I tried to epoxy the console to the original bracket, but it didn't stick, so the console is not properly fastened at the back but it has been sitting just fine since then. The shifter has a new vinyl boot, and I added the aftermarket Momo knob back when I changed seats. I do have a ratty original maple knob (badly in need of refinishing) if you would like that included. Previous owner had repainted the car to a Ferrari red before 2003; this is common since the stock colour is an orangy red. It was an inexpensive repaint with some overspray and primer showing around the hood opening and trunk, and the paint has faded badly. It actually buffed out very well for the photos that I took in May, but it is now showing water spots again, so it could really use a respray. It has also accumulated a number of small dings over the years. The upper door hinge was broken on the driver's side when I bought it; a very common ailment for this car. I didn't even figure out what the problem was until I read the Fiat forum this spring, but the door has overextended and creased the fender. The '84 had the same ailment but the previous owner welded it (crudely) before the exterior repaint. I've lived with it for 11 years on the '83, so it's manageable but should be repaired if you intend to repaint. I've been using Mobil 1 full synthetic oil for the past 5 years. Pressure is good when cold (50 psi at idle, 70 at 4,000 rpm), and maintains 50 at speed when warm, dropping to about 10 warm at idle (this may be an artifact of the . The '84 does the same with just 45,000 miles, so this is normal. Transmission fluid was replaced with Redline this spring. Second gear synchro doesn't crunch, but then I don't push it so it probably does if you drive it hard. Power window switch is brand new OEM. There's about a 1" hole in the back end of the exhaust resonator, and the exhaust rattles a bit when cold but that disappears when warm and is only present at idle anyway, so I haven't dealt with it. Previous owner installed a fabric dash pad (included, still in great shape), so there are no cracks on top of the dash but it is cracked below the glovebox. Middle console is in great shape. There is a small tear in both upper vinyl door panels. The armrest has a chromed plastic strip and the chrome is shedding. Same goes for the strips on the package shelf that replaced the rear seat when Pininfarina took over. The left front plastic fender liner has been removed. A brand new replacement is included but is not installed. Slightly shabby vinyl tonneau cover and excellent vinyl bra included. Spare tire is original, even holds air (still showed 15 psi when I checked it for the first time ever last month, inflated gently to 30 but not checked since). Original Cromodora wheels all have some damage. One has a fairly large rim dent that I did not notice until after the Pirellis were installed. But it holds air just fine. Stereo is an aftermarket JVC CD/MP3. Speakers are top of the line Infinity Kappas, about 15 years old and salvaged from my '65 Impala, totalled in 2002. Rears are 6 by 9s mounted in free floating MDF boxes, fronts are 5" component with the primaries installed in stock position and tweeters through the map pockets. The rears in particular are showing their age, but still sound great. I'm driving this car daily.. Inspections and test drives are encouraged. Cash or Paypal.
