Vehicle Detail
1963 Porsche 356 B 1600 Super VIN# 157450 Chassis # 214278 Engine # 704272 In 1989 this car underwent a major engine & transmission overhaul by Oskar at German Auto in Alameda CA. He was an amazing man, and sometimes mentor for me. He came to the west coast in the 70's to setup shop and was the first west coast Porsche mechanics rep. His experience and expertise with the 356 and 911 cars was top notch. he owned a 356 himself, so this car was taken care of just like his own. The engine in this car is ready to rock. its still extremely clean and original. unfortunately for the past owner, rust was found on the floors so the shop reported the rust and the owner drove the car home, removed the interior in hopes of doing the work himself in his garage. this did not work out for him but he did manage to organize, bag and tag every item from the car. everything is with the car, including some new items and original parts. it is clear from all the pictures that the most common spots need attention. All in All this car is solid and drivable, but only from the drivers side. the passenger seat mounts are rusted through. the body of the car is straight and i see no evidence of body damage or bondo but it looks like a minor restoration was done in the early 80's. Doors are completely solid. light surface rust on inside. the rear engine bay is 100% solid. the bonnet has a bend on passenger side and will need to be worked into shape by a pro. from what i can gather it seems the previous owner was at the most the 3rd owner. last registered in 89. Pink slip in hand The tank has since rusted on the inside. no attempts have been made to start the car since 2002 with that tank. upon arrival to my shop we removed the tank and sent out to be cleaned and pressure tested. its good. but we have attached a baby bottle to ensure clean gas runs through the car until tank replaced or can be redone with bladder. a basic clear inline fuel filter to monitor fuel. with the original Carburetters both rebuilt and cleaned completely. the distributor was also rebuilt and we added a new coil and condenser. the oil is crystal clear after 15 years of storage. also looks like a brand new starter installed. new rotor cap, plugs and cables. just completing the car today 8/19 with new battery and first attempts to start. I am creating a more in depth slideshow and video that i will post to YouTube in the next day and i will revise this listing daily should anything change. if you have any questions or special picture requests? please send your email or phone number and i will get back to you ASAP within an hour. the car is located at my shop in Fremont California right now. easy transport location and i will help facilitate a safe load and departure onto transport On Aug-19-14 at 20:18:06 PDT, seller added the following information: 4:45pm The car is running and idling perfect tried to put in gear but seems clutch cable not working or gear box not warm enough. clean gas from baby bottle feeding engine. let car idle for 4 minutes until baby bottle almost empty. new battery and all items in car and ready for new home. also didnt mention that the engine compartment is completely rust free time capsule. just completed a quick edit of some video shot on my iphone. please go to youtube... about halfway through is the 2nd start attempt, and various shots of the car for your review. since i cannot add a YouTube link per ebay terms search (1963 Porsche 356B #214278 ) or add this after the dotcom /watch?v=E8cfJi_e98w&feature=youtu.be you can also email me for the link along with any questions you might have. On Aug-20-14 at 12:21:06 PDT, seller added the following information: a lot of questions coming in on the car. most common answer: " yes, this car has all original, chrome, guages, radio, seats, door panels. this is a 1600S Type B with original Dual Port Zenith Carburetters. this is one of the most desirable 356B's with a 6V system. horn works, but sticky. driver headlight bulb out. passenger bulb good. all turn signals work and brake lights come on. indicators in car also light up. car idles/revs great. will need some more light tuning. but motor and bay in amazing condition. fuel tank will need another cleaning and bladder, or replaced. a small fuel baby bottle is being used in its place. tank willbe in place but need to be removed to add in bottle and start the car. 1963 Porsche Type B 1600 Super Karmann #157450 Chassis # 214278 Engine # 704272 (61195) (616/42) 916 Trans# 75681 original Zenith 32NDIX dual port Carburetters / air box and caps original Pianola radio ( powers on. i only hear static when plug speaker in) suspension all looks original. new shocks in rear. inline fuel filter indicates any light rust particles from line have been captured unable to do a driving brake test due to clutch cable but they work under run/push test. this car is drivable with new clutch cable, although passenger floor mounts are rusted through. not safe from passenger side
